Are you going to try to go to "A" School graduation? My son said that it was not that big of a deal - I figure that any graduation is a big deal!!! But he should get to fly home for a few days after it - I would LOVE to be able to sit next to him on an airplane with him in his Navy uniform and me in my Navy Mom Sweatshirt. His graduation should be about the end of April - today was his first day of school.
He finally got to have his cell phone!! I at least can leave him messages.

There is an NEX store at the Great Lakes graduation. I'm not sure if there is anything online.
My son Paul graduated from boot camp in oct at Great Lakes. I was under the impression that was the only Naval training station for boot camp. Anyway, the grad is definately worth going to. It's a huge deal. Wherever ur sons or daughters are training and graduating from I highly recommend you attending.
My son said that he may have to stay at "A' school for as long as up to a month after he graduates before he get to come home on LEAVE - before he goes to where he will be stationed.
Do you wish that you had gone to this graduation. What is Power School? What is your son's "job"? Mine is a Master at Arms - he should be in "A" school here in Texas, but for some wierd reason he is in Virginia Beach.
Donna,
My son Colton just started A school in GL. (3/14 PIR)
He too is an electricians mate :)
Well they say 4 months, but he said that is like the introduction into EM.
Then I am guessing there is another school he is suppose to attend ?
He is also hoping to get to C school.
I really am out of my field here.
This is where this site is PRICELESS, I get to gather info from people who are *in the know*
So does Em and EMN all start out the same then move in different directions, OR is it right out of the gate different ?
Gosh thank you for all your help :)
Elactricians Mate Nuclear
Found it on this website that told you all about every job in the navy and its acronyms :)
my son is graduating from A school in CT and i don't have any vacation time to go see him'but he will be flying home the same day so I will wait for him to come home. he will be home for two weeks then off to his homeport. that is what is going to be hard because he will be gone for longer streaches of time as he will be on a sub.
it's ok theresa. i'm sure ur son has made friends for life where he is. navy people take care of their own. his shipmates will make sure he has fun after grad. just cherish the time u have with him when he comes home. don't be upset when he want to hang with his buddies when he gets home. just accept him for what he is. he's ur man now that u can rely on for the rest of ur life.
Hello Brenda,
My son graduated from GL in October and is currently in his A school in Conn. (subs) he will graduate on July 17th and I am definitely going! I loved graduation at Basic, and although there isn't the same pomp at this graduation, I can't wait to be there. What makes it even better, my parents will be here in NY visiting for two weeks and they will also be able to attend. My mom is totally amped about seeing the graduation process and being able to see Bob and I can't wait to be able to take pictures of my son and his grandparents in his uniform. Proud doesn't even begin to describe the feeling. And to make things even better, my sister and her family will all be at my house the weekend before and my nephew will be here as well. My nephew is in the Marines and is coming home from Iraq next month. I am going to ask my son and my nephew to bring their uniforms so that I can take pictures of both of the boys with their grandparents. That will be one for album for sure. Great to read all of the wonderful postings from all my new found friends! Can't wait to hear from all of you.

Wow - great !!! Can't wait to see those pictures. My grandfather was in the Navy, but he passed away before my Navy son was even born. My dad was in the Air Force, but I doubt he even has his uniform anymore. I am going to call him tomorrow and find out!!!!
