What is acceptable for setting letters at boot camp? Plain white envelopes? Plain paper? Not mushy? Are Christmas cards ok? Pictures? thanks

Don't write anything on the outside of the envelope, that would give them something to make fun of him about. He probably won't keep much that you write because they only have one drawer to keep all their clothes and belongings in. I sent my son a picture of us and a picture of him and his girlfriend. I sent him other pictures of new events but just printed them on plain paper so he could see them and throw them away. I also sent news articles that I printed off the internet and he passed them around and they threw them away when they were finished reading them. I sent him some stamps, although they can buy them at the NEX. Most of the things you send will be thrown away so keep that in mind.
i'm going plain white, i'm including a stamped blank envelope just in case he care write back or doesn't have time to get to nex to get stamps. cards (no confetti, no sounds etc) but i'm trying to remember he's with 1000 others so i don't want to depress him or make him sad or get him picked on. i got one today that is a comic holiday card so he doesnt' get depressed on christmas day. they suggest sending pics, i'm waiting until abotu 1/2 way b/c i think he will feel like "I can do this, i'm half way" and seeing our pic all the time might throw him off (of course our 5 yr old colors pics all the time to him)...anything to make him smile in my book :)
I sent my son a book of stamps and a blank check ( for buying his photos.). I will send a card for x-mas. His recruiter said he didnt recommend photos, unless they were printed out on paper from your computer. Didnt send any yet, still waiting for first contact.I guess newspaper clippings are ok, someone said.
No packages, letters only. If you are sending pictures or news articles copy them from the internet to your letter. You do not want to get them in trouble or singled out. They love getting mail, cards are fine but in white envelope. Do not worry about sending envelopes as that did not seem to be a problem for my son and they can get them. They are encouraged to write home.
Don't send any pictures that would be deemed inappropriate... nothing immodest, in other words. You are welcome to send any cards/letters in any kind of envelope, no matter what the color. They will not be made fun of. My husband was in a huge division and I sent letters in all sorts of kinds of envelopes. But don't send card with sound. The cords will be cut.
I would err on the side of caution as far as the color of envelopes as I have heard from my son that some were singled out, for pictures, musical cards, colored envelopes better to fly under the radar and not be singled out. Mrs. B glad to hear it did not happen to your husband but it does happen to some.
I am sooo going to be in trouble...just sent musical Christmas cards in colored envelopes...with writing on back of envelope...just shoot me now!
Yep, I try to put that info in the DEP groups but many don't join till it's too late.
