OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I can't stop thinking about him and worrying about him.  I start tearing up at the drop of a hat.  I have been reading everything I can about what is happening to him each day.  Some of it has comforted me some of it has worried me a little. I just hate not being able to call him or talk to him.  Eight weeks seems like such a long time right now..

Ruth - Here is the link to your PIR group:

PIR 04/06/2012 (clickable link)

Please join! You will meet other members within your sons Training Group. Also, there will be a Division Discussion for your sons division on the PIR group.

The first few weeks are hard with no communication...it WILL get better! They cannot send or recieve mail until a RMPO - Recruit Mail Petty Office is trained and passes a test to be able to handle the mail...since the USPS is a Federal entity. This cannot even begin until after P days are over (their first week there). Usually the second Sunday they are there is when they get their first "mail call" ...actually recieve mail and can write and send it out furing "Holiday" routine. HR happens on Sundays and Federal Holidays (Like last Monday). This is where the Recruits get five hours "off" to go to Church, shower longer (LOL), write home...but they make sure that they have all of there work done first!

--Did you get your sons Ship/Div info from his Recruiter or from your Form Letter?

Also, quick question...if that is your last name and it is the same as your Recruits, you will need to change it. Last names of sailors are not allowed on the N4M's site as per the Community Guidelines. If it is not the same it is okay...just not recommended for all to see. ;-)

Here is how to change your username and your URl (web address...it is on that too)

To change your username on here.

Just go to "Settings" which is in the list in the far right hand column of this page...under where you sign out of N4M's.

Your profile page will open.

Under "Profile" Username is the third item down.

Clear the info and type in your new username.

Once you do that make sure to click "save" at the bottom right of the page.

To change your URL also as it contains your real name.

See in the address bar at the top of the screen at the end of the "http" when you pull your page up that your name is at the end of the address?

To change that, again go to "Settings".

Once your profile page comes up go to the left and you will see a list of options.

Click "My Page". The third item down is "Address" .

In the box clear the info and type in whatever you want to be at the end of your URL. Your new username is the best idea.

Again click "Save".

Let me know if you need help! No worries...

From reading this it look like even though the mailman said my sons letters would arrive today, they may not be given to him right away, darn. It looks like may not get it till been gone 2 weeks. thant makes me sad as was hoping would get his first letters today.

I read that the SR's do not receive mail until they train someone to do the mail from their Division.  I just received my first letter from my SR and it was dated 2/18.  He said that he was getting ready to take the test to be the Mail PO for his Division.  So, I'm assuming once they pass the test, the Division starts receiving mail.  Hopefully that was earlier this week.  I hope this helps.

Dawn

Also if you have not done so, please join the US Navy Recruit Training Command page on facebook.  There you will find Forum's for your specific Divisions and there seems to be more people joining those Forums then N4M's.  I wish our recruiter would have told us about both sites, but we had to find them on our own.
