Juliette, did your fiance take phone cards?  If not, you can get free ones from callsforrecruits.org. Also, I suggest sending him  a phone card with lots of minutes on it. My son said that each call he made ate up at least 10 minutes of the card. He was able to call home almost every night after battlestations until he graduated. If he didn't have a phone card, that may have been a reason you didn't get the "I'm here" call. My son said it was very rushed and my son's friend probably didn't call me because he didn't have his cell phone and wouldn't have time to use the pay phone.

My daughter left out of Atlanta at 5:50 pm and text me when she landed..Then got a voicemail around 9 pm.. she didn't want me to answer when she made that call.. It does sound "scripted" and she said very fast.."gotta go bye"  I've listened to it over and over.. It's amazing the little things that keep you going.. I had no idea about this website..It seems the recruiters would inform the parents of this information, I guess they all don't..  I have been very Kid-sick for days..today was better tho.

Her recruiter hopefully will return my call with her address..Got a lot of letters ready to send!! Someone mentioned you can send pictures printed on paper?  is this right?   Maybe some of your kids are in same division..she's training for medic.

My daughter is also going to be a Corpsman!  I hope we can meet at their graduation from BC

Hi Tequila - I'm losing track of who I've replied to at this point.  I'm glad you replied and I pray that you'll hear from your daughter soon.

My daughter left Oklahoma on 9-11. I never received the brief 'I'm here" call. I was so afraid that I would miss the call that I stayed up all night waiting for it. Needless to say 9-12 was a very hard day for me. I received her box on 9-14 and that was very emotional for me as well. I think I'm doing better at controlling my emotions for now, but every now and then they still get the better of me. I knew it was going to be hard. Just didn't realize it was going to be this hard.

Leahann, I'm so sorry you didn't receive your call, I know how you feel as I didn't receive one either, my so also left on 9/11 but it makes me less worried knowing someone else didn't get a call, maybe they got there too late?  I haven't received my box yet patiently waiting.  I am crying less but seem to tear up at the stupid things, this morning I teared up that there was no toothpaste residue in the bathroom sink.  I can't go in his room yet, but the dog keeps lying in front of it whimpering.  Hang in there and keep in touch.  What is your daughter going in for?

Ty all for your support. She want in undesignated. Some people say that's good and some say it's not. She scored an 80 on her ASVAB and went in as an E3. They didn't have a rate opening that she wanted. I pray it all works out for her. It all makes me so nervous and proud at the same time. I hope the roller coaster feeling goes away soon.It makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one who didn't get a call. What did your son go in for?

So sorry you didn't receive the I'm here call.  Maybe you'll get a call soon.  I just got one from my recruit !!!  SO happy to hear her voice AND she was happy happy happy !!!  Said it's great, nothing like what she expected.  I haven't gotten her address yet, but she knew her division.  I'm going to dig and see if I can find what else I need for her address.

She's Division 368.  I didn't have that information until now.  It sounded like others were making calls.  But my understanding is that when they do different things has to do with their division officer/chief.

leahann, my son went Nuke so after bootcamp he will have A school and Nuke school in South Carolina then prototype either in NY or SC.  But I' m still concentrating on Bootcamp and hoping he is well and is proud and happy with his choice

Karenstout, wow Nuke that sounds important and a bit scarey lol. I have no idea what Nuke entails. I think that is part of my issue, I don't understand so much of all this. All I know for sure is that when she gets done with boot camp she will go to  3 weeks of some sort of schooling right there by where boot camp is. All the unknowns is driving me nuts. Wonder if that means I'm more of a controll freak than I thought I was lol.

Nuke is the sailors that take care of the nuclear reactors aboard subs (which is what he wants) or carriers.  His schooling will take l8 months then another 3 months of sub school.  Don't think you are a control freak, it is the unknown that is scary. There are many links on here that tell you about boot camp, different ratings, jobs, etc.  keep reading, it makes it easier to have some idea of what is going on day to day, but I can't figure out what day he is on because pdays can take longer if they are waiting for a division to fill up or shorter if you are assigned to a push division.  It is killing me not talking to him and not knowing what he is up to, that may make me the control freak!
