For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Need words of wisdom... or something
My son is leaving for boot camp in 30 days and then on to Nuke school. I feel like I'm losing my mind and can hardly keep it together. I can't be the only one, right?? I definitely don't want to make leaving harder on him, you know?

Yvonne - my son is at BC right now and we just got our first "real" phone call on Thursday. All my fears have been relieved, and he sounded great. You will miss him terribly, there's no getting around that. One thing I did to quell the tears was to clean his room. You don't miss him so much when you see what a mess he left you with! :) Hang in there and know we're all in this together. This is an awesome site - be sure to visit the boot camp group and then your PIR group, once he gets there.
I would suggest that the two of you look at as many videos as you can stand - the more info the better. There are some out there that are produced by the Navy, and some from former recruits. Look at both.

Hi Yvonne, It seems like you are getting wonderful advise from some very wise moms that are either going through what you are going through or have already been through it. I wish I would have found this group when my son went to BC in 2007, it would have helped us both. Yes on the self-addressed stamped envelopes. Those help out so much! Once other suggestion, if you write 3 x's a week it can seem like you run out of things to say or may sound like you repeat yourself so sit down with your son as ask him about topics he wants to be updated on while he's in BC and school. He may surprise you that he wants he hear about "Aunt Bootsie" or maybe wants the hightlights of his favorite show. If you do this then he knows that you are planning to write and he has a little say in what is happening. Also, be prepared to answer the phone at anytime of the night. Mine would call me during power school and prototype at 2 in the morning sometimes and the great part was he knew I didn't mind. Now I'm subject to calls from Guam and heaven knows what time. If you make yourself available to him it won't be so hard. Just talk about it. Good luck and we will be here for both of you.

wow! thanks for the kind words! it's been quite a rollercoaster kind of week. First I had a little meltdown with the realization that, OMG, this is happening...he's leaving soon! He DEPed in like six months ago, so it's not like a surprise, just feels more real now. And then his job as a lift operator at Crystal Mt. resort caught up to him ...IE, too much sitting, too much after hours partying and eating...so he gained some weight. So a couple days ago, his recruiter is telling him he may discharge him :( as much as I'm going to miss him, the idea of him missing out on this opportunity was SOO disappointing. so sweating and fasting has him back in standards, but only by the hair of his chinny chin, chin... so now my almost uncontrollable crying has been replaced by supporting him in his strict diet and exercise regiment. jeez. I'm tired lol

Hi Yvonne - my son leaves on Tuesday (10/23) for boot camp and then on to nuke school! Can't believe this is our last weekend with him......He's 23 and is so ready for this - I wish I was as ready as he is LOL. I'm trying to stay strong but it's hard. I know he will be ok though...... It's been a long wait - he's been in DEP since January.....seemed like forever ago and now it's here. Hubby and I will be true empty nesters as our youngest moved into the college dorms in August....at least he's not far away and I can talk to him when I want! (at least when I can get him to answer the phone!!) Poor dog can't figure out what is happening around here..... hang in there!
