Hoping to create a discussion thread for parents of recruits that left in January of 2015.  My daughter left this past Monday, so she has been at GL for 1 whole day now.  Yesterday was an emotional roller coaster.  Today I am full of pride and realizing the true meaning of "No news is good news".  I can not wait to hear from her, but I also know how determined she is to get through basic.  I know it is not easy and our children are probably stressed beyond any limit they have ever experienced.  I would love to connect with other parents of children that have left this month and share this experience with them.  Plus, knowing I am not alone is comforting.  Hope to hear from you all soon!

That could have been it. I have the thingie signed now and about to put it on my door before I head out. Thanks lemonelephant (=

:o)

I almost have the box!  I came home to a door tag. :(  Called and I can pick it up at the station that is no too far from my work. :)  I don't have to work (yay) but I know the way to the station all to well!  I will have it tomorrow afternoon.

Awesome!

My son left for GL Tuesday 1/13/15. I received the scripted phone call at about 10:29pm that night. I tried to hold back my emotions but I gave way at the end of our conversation. We talked for about 2 minutes. I told him to be strong and I know he will make me proud. I know he will be fine and he will do well. I just need to be strong myself. I hope that I can connect with other moms whose child left for BC on the same day as my son. I met the other recruits in his group. I hope to connect with their moms.

You were very lucky to get that long of a phone call.  How are you holding up now, towards the end of the week?  It's a daily emotional roller coaster for me, but I'm doing better at not letting the tears fall.  I get tears of joy and sadness.  I really want this for my baby, as this is what she wants for herself.

Are you new to the military life mygemforever?

Yes I am a newbie. It is very difficult for me. I try to be strong for my son but still becomes very emotional. Its been 2 days since he left and I am still trying to deal with it. I know this is what he wants and I am all for it. I am happy and at the same time sad. I will not hear from him until after 3 weeks. I will be fine. Thank you for moms like you who I can talk to. It makes me feel better.

Well welcome to the military life!  Although I grew up a Navy brat and retired from the AF, with a couple of deployments...none of that prepared me for THIS.

My comfort comes in knowing what a courageous and great decision it is to serve our great nation.  I also remind myself, on a daily basis, that I do NOT want the call that she is being sent home.  She wants this and I want it for her, the life in the military is just a WOW experience.  It is not for everyone, that I do know.  I hope your son enjoys the journey (and just think of your visits to his duty locations).  I'm excited to share this journey with you and all the other Navy Moms.

Just think...our babies will be part of an ELITE group!!!

I think as soon as we hear them say they are doing well and happy and are NOT being sent home, that would be the time that we can get some peace of mind. And I know we are all looking forward to the call that says "I am a Sailor!" Then we can all say that all of  their hardwork, sacrifices as well as ours paved the way for them to be part of an ELITE group - the NAVY!

Amen!

My husband arrived in GL 1/6. It was really hard seeing him go, especially since we have a nine week old son. I'm proud of him more than anything else, so that makes things a little easier. He's ship 11 div 097. PIR 2/27/15. Counting the days.

congratulations on your decision to serve, because yes as a military spouse YOU are serving too!  Since your husband left a week prior to my daughter, just curious have you received a phone call yet?  A letter?

thanks!
