My son is there now, but he is supposed to graduate March 19. He is having trouble passing the running portion of the PFA & may not graduate with his division. We won't know until tomorrow when he has one more chance to pass the PFA.
Where are you located? I hope he passes it tomorrow, let me know. Too bad our sons didn't know each other prior, my son could have helped your son train. He helped another guy pass his before he left for boot camp. That is one thing that comes natural to my son. He has already passed his initial test but I'm sure he will have more since he is only half way through right now.
We are from Topeka. Where are you?
Ethan is going to be a Nuke. After bootcamp he will go to South Carolina for A-school. What is Garrett going to do?
Funny, we are in Topeka as well. Garrett will be in Pensacola, FL for A-School for AME. Where did Ethan go to school?
Shawnee Heights. What about Garrett?

No news is NOT good news!
I assumed that not hearing from Ethan meant that he did pass his PFA today. Just to be sure I called the PA office. They said that he can retake the PFA every 2 days. Their computer shows that he failed on Monday & it doesn't show anything yet for today. They said that he would call if he does pass. No word from him yet, so I guess he hasn't passed.
Not passing = no battlestations tonight = no PIR on Friday.

I am sooooooooo depressed! I was looking forward to seeing him at his PIR.

I am going to request you as a friend. Then we can send messages privately.
My son gradauted from SH last year. I will be praying for your son that he passes all tests. Okay, I will accept the request.
My son is also there but the PIR is June 25th. When did you get your first real letter and phone calls?
Susan
Susan -

Our son left on March 17 of this year and we got our first "real" phone call on Easter - 4/4. That was a five minute quickie, and then a much longer call 2 days later. The phone calls actually came before the first letter. It seemed some divisions got calls earlier, but Div 183 took a little time getting their act together - some privileges took some time to earn.

Boot camp is painfully long and flies by super-fast... all at the same time. Are you going to Great Lakes for PIR? It is an impressive site.
Yes have plans to go for a four day weekend with his oldest sister. We are looking forward to it, where did you stay?
We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Belvidere Rd in Waukegan. Clean, decent place with continental breakfast provided.

It's about 10 minutes from the main gate at Great Lakes. More importantly they have a free shuttle service to get you to and from PIR on Friday. The traffic jam getting onto base is pretty impressive, and our driver knew some nifty side routes to avoid most of it. Your sailor can ride back to the hotel with you in the shuttle afterwards.

A lot of the area hotels have a similar service. My recommendation is wherever you stay make sure they have a shuttle available.

Oh yeah - bring cash for buying Navy swag at the NEX by the gate. You can go in with your sailor and shop but he will have to make the actual purchase at checkout.
My son left for BC on 10/27
I cannot wait to hear from him and find out when his PIR is
