For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

DC school is at GL. It takes 12 weeks or so, depending how he does. After A school, my daughter was sent to Japan for 3 years.

my daughter is also leaving for boot camp on August 16, 2010.. she is going in as a DC too..
but i thought that A - School was only 4 weeks long???
and my daughter wants to go over seas once she gets out of boot camp so i was just wondering if your daughter requested to be sent to Japan or was that assigned to her???
i will really appreciate your reply,

matehualamaria - After BC graduation (PIR) they get transferred to Great Lakes for training school - across the street. Katie was on hold because she arrived just before Christmas and they didn't have enough room for her. Her school began in January after Christmas leave.First you have Basic Engineering Common Core Classes before the actual DC training. If you don't pass a class, you have to repeat them. So it roughly takes 10-12 weeks.

My husband retired as a Damage Control Senior Chief, he said that a Damage Controlman will provied maintenance on fire suppression systems, maintain firefighting gear, stand watches to protect the ship from fire and flooding. They also act as first responders to assist medical with personnel casualties caused by fire, flooding or damage caused to the ship and crew. They also take care of the ships Chemical, Biological and Radiological equipment and procedures. The will work in the Engineering Department and stand watches there as well. DCmen can be assigned to ships and shore stations alike.

Hi. My son is in Bootcamp now then will go to A school to train for DC also. He will do A school at Great Lakes. Join the DC moms group, there so helpful! Best of luck.
