Graduation starts at 10 am. Lasts about half hour or so. They have a small ceremony (the normal formal stuff), then the guys get pinned. Very nicely presented. NOTHING like PIR. You sit outside in bleachers, rain or shine.
We went to that last graduation ceremony even though our son did not graduate that day. He will graduate with your son. We will not be making the trip out this time, so hopefully he will come home for Christmas shortly afterward graduation.

Usually they leave with in the next 12-24 hours to report to their next duty station. So plan your stay to be there the weekend before to spend that time and the evening nights after they are released with him. They will have t-shirts and other stuff along with the video of the training to purchase at graduation.

We stayed at the Quailty Inn at I-5/Camp Pendelton. Very nice and only a few minutes from base.

Have a great time, Cheryl
Cheryl, Thank you! I have family down that way and I live north of Sacramento so I plan to stay a few days.
My son also graduates FMTB on Dec. 16, but sadly I don't think his dad & I can make it.
How is your son holding up? Maria
Marie, thank you for the information. How far away do you live? I live 12 hours away but have family along the way. My son Michael is doing good but he's very tired. I pray regularly for him and would be honored to pray for your son as well. lezlie
12 hours away? Where are you? We are in Hawaii. It's approx. a 7hr flight, but the airfare is ridiculously high. We're hoping he will come home for Christmas. My son is in the 3rd Platoon, how about your son? I pray for my son everyday and appreciate yours. Maria
Marie, I live in Redding CA, north of Sacramento. Some people make the drive in 10-11 hours. I understand the air fares especially from Hawaii. My son Michael spent his graduation summer from high school there with a friend. I believe my son is in the 18th. I'm trying to pray specifically on Mondays for our sons and others in the military. Thanks!
Hi my son to graduates on the 16th. We are going to go there to see it. He leaves shortly after so the time spent with him will be special! Haven't booked hotel room yet but on todays honeydo list! Sure hope the weather holds out, I have never been to CA.
Southern CA usually has moderate weather so hopefully it won't rain! It's beautiful in San Diego.

Hi Chief88,  Did you find a room ok?  If not, I have contacts, as I use to be a Hotel Sales Manager.  I also can suggest places to eat and go.  Let me know if you still need assistance.

Carla

After looking at the cp maps the base is so large which gate and where on base is the graduation> Anyone out there know
My son said to go into the main gate, go left--make a few more lefts. He also said he'd be able to give more details the week of graduation.
Main Gate to CP is at Oceanside just off the freeway. Once you are on the base they have signs for fmtb graduation. Have fun ladies. It is a great time!!
