Hi looking to interact with anyone who has a SR in this division. My 18 year old son left of Feb 9, 2011. I have gotten one letter so far from him. He seemed to be having a really hard time. :(

Hey Sailormom...we had previously started a discussion from Ship 11 DIV 127.  Go to view all and scroll down, you will see it.  Most of us have received a letter or 2...but as of now, no phone calls yet!  We are all just waiting.  Are you planning on going to PIR?  Lots of us are going.  Interesting to imagine that we are all talking to people who could be our own SR's new best friend...and we dont even know it.  Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Yes my whole family is going! No way we would miss our son graduating! We are really looking forward to it! Very excited for him! What is your sons name?
HI, It is so hard to wait for aletter and wonder how your kid is doing.  We recently got a good long letter from our SR.  He is older and has been through other hard activities (drum and bugle corps) I believe it is helping him now.  He did say that there is "a lot of yelling" and a huge amount of attention to detail.  There are repeated "bunk drills"  (not sure what that entails) so I know it is tough.  Keep posting in this group.  It really helps...
Hang in there judyspin!  We are now 1/2 way through...so they are 1/2 through with the constant yelling...although I am sure the hardest is yet to come.  I tell myself that if 50,000 other "kids" can make it through Navy Boot Camp every year...so can mine!  We have gotten letters on the last 2 Thursdays...no phone call yet.  Letters sound very positive and I think despite the hard stuff, the SR's are really pushing themselves...for the better!  I know how you feel...this site really, really helps!!!
YUP!! Hanging in!  I think you are right that they are pushing themselves...it's all about growing up and taking on responsibility, for yourself and for your outfit. It's a huge step for anyone. I also get the impression that the training staff really works with them to help them get it, that attention to detail is all important.  When you aare enlisted in the service, attention to detail and obeying orders is everything.  They have other people for the big picture!!

And, actually, i went into the service at 18...just did a few years (ARMY).  Although I think that I was pretty organized and mature (i am pretty sure of that!)...it still did a lot for me.  Maybe I didnt like all that my Drill Sgts. did while we were in basic training...but you better believe, when I got out...and still to this day... have a lot of respect for them.  I guess as moms we are not going to yell at the kids to make their beds (maybe a little yelling), but if I had a total stranger yelling at me...I might think twice about how the bed (probably trival in the scheme of things) and other things (as you said attention to detail) are done...and how I must do them right in order to succeed in life.  I am so looking forward to talking to my son!!  Just the fact that he actually wrote us letters, is a major change!!!  I am excited to see the young man that he has become.

Hi Sailormom, my son is 18 and is from ship 11 Div 127 as well.  I received a letter but I haven't received a call yet.  I heard a couple others received calls yesterday.  Hopefully you did.  Are you going to PIR?

Yes my whole family is going!
HI, So glad to say we received a letter today! Of course, he confirmed exactly what has been posted before.  Really hard RDC's and hates the food, but too hungry to care.  All in all, glad to hear he is still alive and kickin'.  They had only heard rumors of phone calls this week, so not sure when that will happen.  He is glad it is half over and maybe we will all make it to PIR!!
I received a letter from my son yesterday and he said he can't believe bc is 1/2 over, its going by quick but day to day goes be slow.  He gave me breakdown of a typical day so that was nice, since I haven't yet talked to him :(  He told me they might be able to call on Wednesday, but that didn't happen so now everytime my phone rings I jump and then when I see its not him, the poor person who is calling me (usually my husband) gets the dreaded sounding hello.  All I can do is keep praying for him and jumping every time my phone rings. :-)

Hi everyone!

My son was able to make a 1/2 hour phone call the other day to us! I was so happy to finally hear his voice! Wow! He sounded a lot different. He said their division has 82 men and no women. They started with 82 but are now down to 79 because a couple guys got kicked out. He said that the drill sargeants they have are the toughest ones there! He said that the drill seargents always have divisions that graduate above everyone else! These guys must be tough! He said that they get very little sleep because they have to get up during the night and iron their clothes and stand watch! He sounded good though! He said things are starting to become routine. Glad to meet all of you!

Sailormom...so glad you got a call!  So glad he is doing well.  Can't believe that in just 4 "short" weeks, this will all be done.  We are so looking forward to flying out to PIR.
