Hi Ladies, this is my first time posting on this group. My daughter is on the Iwo Jima and I am down here in Norfolk spending the last couple of days with her before she deploys :( I was wondering if there are any other families/mums who might be seeing their sailor off on Tuesday who would be travelling back to NC?I'm actually staying with my older daughter in Greenville, but due to unforseen circumstances cannot pick me up until much later in the day on the Tuesday. Just wondering if there was anybody I could "hitch" a ride back with? This is mine and my daughters !st deployment so not sure what to expect on "the day"!!

Yikes, Hun!!! Hope you get a ride! I cant be much help - i'm in Arizona. Our daughter- in- love doesn't drive at all yet and when our son's ship leaves or leaves port she has to hitch a ride. If you can't get a ride home maybe a ride to s local mall where your other daughter could pick you up after an afternoon of "retail therapy"

You'll get through this deployment just fine. Try to keep your tears at bay until she can't see you - then cry :-)). It's tough to do that, but it will help your daughter to know you're okay. Come here and post questions or vent or tell us what she's up to. First deployment is toughest because everybody ha to "crank" - which means they do different things around the ship (time in the galley, etc) but she'll get through it just fine.

Don't know if any of the moderators have contacted you about your post - though I totally understand your reasoning for posting here - but someone may send you note telling you that OPSEC says we shouldn't post ship movement or dates on these social media sites or other electronic resources. This site is not private - its very public. You can google your name and your posts will show up here. Not scolding you - HONEST I'm not.

Thank you so much for replying and your words of encouragement :) Have managed to spend some quality time with her these past 2 days :) She will be cranking that morning and I am just hoping they let her off long enough to get one last hug in :/ I understand totally about the OPSEC and as the local News website in Norfolk actually had the date!!! they were leaving( which I thought was bad),I thought I should be ok. I'm actually closer to you homewise as I live in Vegas!!! I fly back next week :(
