OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Congrats!! Mine has not left for Boot or A school, but I am prior Navy, and I am pretty sure they do not find out about C school till the last week of A school. I was told 4-6 months for IS "A" school (depends on what day they class up, if there is any breaks for holidays and so forth) i actually got held back 5 weeks of my A school in pensacola because there was a mono outbreak and I got it.

If your SR is in the IS field then count on "C" school. My sailor was on hold for about 6 weeks bwtween "A" and "C" school.
IS used to be understaffed but now with the cut backs they are becoming overmanned so they will have the sailors wait to begin "C" school. Think of it like an airport. If there isn't a place for the plane to land then they aren't going to let it take off.
The sailors won't start "C" school until there is a place for them to go. My sailor had duty, did PT and tried to pass the time in between schools. That is the time to do correspondence courses and and certifications.
Some "C" school last for 6 weeks some for 4+ months. It depends on the speciality. They get a "wish list" but ultimately, the Navy decides which school they attend and where they will be stationed. But don't worry, its all good. It is a great field to be in.

My SR does not leave for boot camp until July 26th. He is a reservist and his contract says he is IS with an A and C school requirement. His recruiter says to plan on him being gone for 6 to 8 months so that means he will not get to start college until September of 2013. What happens to the reservist if they have to wait to class up of A and C schools? Where are they sent and how long do they have to wait?

My son left for bc on the 26th too and is scheduled for IS school on 10/1. Recruiter never said a word about C school, and we have him registered for January college. On his guarantee it does not say C school immediately after A school, so figured he would do that some other time? This will be so upsetting for him. Does anyone know if anyone has completed A school and then attended C school at a later date?

My fiance is an IS he graduates A school next Friday. Im going out there to see him :) Anyway they will have to attend C school directly after A school. It a very hard school and extremely stressful. Depending on the class rank will be there specialist. He is a reservist.

My son is also a Reservist IS, at Boot camp now with a PIR of 9/28. How and when did you find out your son is starting A school 10/1? Our recruiter didn't even know where my son was going to A school when we met with him a week before he left; we had done the research and know it'll be Dam Neck. I'm guessing my son could start 10/1 also, unless the class is full. I don't know how often they class up for that.

"A" usually school starts up right after boot. The waiting time to class up happens between "A" and "C" school.
During that time, they are still at Dam Neck...waiting. They will have duty and watch but they will not be in school. The waiting time can last anywhere from one to three months. Then again, could be more, could be less. There has to be a need in the rate, then they will begin class.
My son took some training courses and compuer based training to pass the time. Most sailors use the time productively a few make bad choices and are dropped out of the IS rate. Some are even discharged from the Navy. Tell your sailor to stay smart and all will be well.

InYou SR was given a sheet that had Intelligence Specialist on the top of it. On that shee it gave the carrer path. My son is in the same field and his says 12 weeks for A school and 5 to 13 weeks for C school. It depends on the choice they make as to the specific field they go into.
Just so you have some sort of time frame to go by. A Mom is Florida.
