Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

New Female Hair Regs

Hello all! I'm due to ship out for Bootcamp on the 18th of this month (finally!) after waiting for 6 months in DEP. As you all know by now the female hair standards have finally changed for the pilot program at BC January to March of this year. I don't know any females currently in BC that I could write to, but perhaps some of your daughters have written to you about it. Are they allotting females more time to "get ready" in order to do their hair by standards? Are they also allowing us to bring the necessary items- elastics, bobby pins, the little "donut" for a sock bun, etc., to fix our hair appropriately? I ask because not only do I not want to show up there with these things only to throw them out or send them home, I do not want to show up there with hair too long and have them cut it; I would much rather have my hair cut by my own hair dresser. Please let me know if you have any inside info as a few of the girls in my DEP have been wondering the same thing!! Thanks a bunch.

Can't tell you what's going on in boot camp with the pilot program, but my daughter's advice after 10+ years: Keep it short. She's let grow out to bun length a few times but always goes back to pixie or bob length, especially aboard ship. She can roll out of her rack, slap on a cap and be ready to go.

Thanks for the advice!! I'm more of a girly girl so even though I'll agree shorter hair can be easier I want to have longer hair whenever possible!

I cut mine short for boot camp because there simply is no time each morning, and no product is allowed.  I grew it out after, but I often went back to a chin length bob.  And I wasn't even on a ship!

I know in past years there was no product allowed or time allotted for females to do their hair but my question was specifically about the new pilot program! Thanks though!

At a guess, I'd say they will require you to purchase the hair items at the NEX, for conformity, and to make sure no contraband comes through.  I would bet the donut for a bun is not going to happen in boot camp. I suggest bring the minimum.  Perhaps hair items will be treated much like the feminine hygiene items, put in a common pool for the division.

Extra time?  When I went through, women could still have long hair.  No one received extra time, and no one is allowed to get up early.  30 minutes to shower, dress, do your hair, and make your rack and hit the line.  If they give the women with long hair extra time, they would need to give the entire division extra time. (I believe the division gets 45 minutes now).

But there are many unknowns still, so I am curious how it will be handled.

Will try to get answers for you. My daughter kept her long hair, she's used to throwing up in bun, etc and hasn't indicated any problems this far with it. You don't need pins, etc, you'll need to get there. My daughter graduates 3/13, so will see what I can get for you from her
