Our son phoned today and we were able to speak with him for almost an hour... PTL! He said that there will be 15 divisions doing the Pass In Review (PIR) on the 5th. of Sept. He also said the honchos at RTC told his Division 323, Ship 13, that the recruits could wear their own personal glasses or contacts for PIR. We will mail him a set asap. Hope this information helps someone. We also asked him to confirm his A-school departure date, as well as the airport, so we can stick around for that, hopefully. Maribel Tamez

Does anyone know if Division 320 Ship 10 is still going to graduate on 9/5? My mom and are sooooo looking forward to getting a hold of that boy of mine! Too bad he will get such a short liberty. We will take what we can get, though, and be grateful. If anything, this experience has taught us all about the priorities in our lives. I was forever guilty of brushing him off, being too busy (single mom, teacher, take your pick of excuses)to take the time and sit down with him for a talk. As a result, we rarely managed any kind of conversation the last two years. This forced separation really straightened out my priorities, that's for sure! When Ethan called on Friday, my world stopped for almost 12 minutes, and all did was listen and ask appropriate questions. I was just his mom, wanting to hear his voice. He had my complete, undivided attention. It was a good talk. Now my question is, how do I keep from falling apart at his PIR? I will be so excited to see him, that I hope I don't pass out! Any suggestions?

My son's name is Timothy. He qualified as Marksman last week and was pretty excited about it as he had never fired a weapon in his life before. He is actually looking forward to the gas chamber, which I don't quite understand - boys! I guess they are "men" now. That is a hard term for me to grasp!

PIR stands for Pass in review, doesn't it? What is your sailor's name? My son is Ethan, Division 320 Ship 10. He just qualified as sharpshooter on the firing range last week, and said that next week is the "confidence chamber", which will be quite a test; then it is on to battlestations!

I think the most frustrating thing about the Navy is all the acronyms. What does PIR stand for? I know my son is graduating from boot camp on 9/5. He is in Division 324 Ship11. We will be coming in on Thursday. Hopefully arriving early evenign to check into the hotel. It will be my two younger children, 6 and 3 years old, and a fried of mine to help with the little rugrats. I am so excited to see my son who I couldn't even get to brush his teeth two months ago graduate with honors. See you there!

Hi
We might be there. Not sure what time we are driving in. If we come it will be four of us, possibly six.
Thanks
Amy
