Chicago is amazing.  I hope you get a chance to go downtown Chicago and see Navy Pier and the sights.  It is beautiful and so much to do there.  It is about a half hour drive.  http://www.chicagotraveler.com/things-to-do.htm

If you want to hang out locally, there is a big mall close to the base.  It is called Gurnee Mills.  Rainforest Cafe & Ruby Tuesdays is there.  A very nice Bass Pro Shop is pretty cool to see there.

Also, there is a Free Navy Museum right on base that is awesome.  We checked it out this summer and is very awesome!!  Halloween event there on:  Friday, October 21, 3:00-4:30pm and Saturday, October 22, 1:00pm-3:00pm Decorate your own sailor's white hat and receive a special Halloween treat! All little skippers are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume!

I am so glad I picked the Ramada Inn to stay at - I've never been to Chicago

and we are very anxious to see the city as well as our sailor - can't wait!

i was going to stay at the Ramada but changed to SpringHill Suites.  The rooms there are only $119 and are new and really nice.  I thought for that little extra $ it would be worth it. And there are all suites and the really nice thing is that the rooms have a seperate shower/sink and another small 1/2 bath.   I stayed there over 4th of July so i know it is nice and is pretty close.  We did go to the base when we were there and i think it only took us 15 minutes.  If you want to check it out, here is the website:   http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chiwg-springhill-suites-chica...
