We had a great day yesterday at the Meet & Greet, about 150-200 people showed up during the 4 hours.  We hope February 16th Meet & Greet has an equal showing or better.  Remember, we are located across from Red Carpet Inn and Great Lakes Motel, and 3 minute walk from Day's Inn and Sleep Inn.  We also honor the $10 gift certificates passed at the hotels both days (Thursday and Friday).

God Bless!

I hope they liked it.  We have changed our free appetizer buffet last few weeks to better appetizers from reviews we have received from families attending our meet and greets.  We are also a full restaurant, unlike some of the other places that need to cater or 'microwave' their free food.  We are trying our best to accommodate everyone, especially at our meet and greets since we know that its not easy traveling half the day, driving out to great lakes, getting to your hotel and being jet lagged, and coming out to any of the local meet and greets. We are trying to make it enjoyable, with good free appetizers, and are allowing the parents to use their sailors $10 gift certificate even on thursday (we are more than happy to give them another one for Friday after graduation).  The economy is not the way it was, and we understand it's not cheap for families to make the trip out here, so we are here to help as much as we can and for everyone to enjoy a good company with food and music.

Waukegan, North Chicago and now a days Gurnee is known to have many problems, both with crime and crooked people (taxi drivers over charging).  And we definitely do not want to the sailors walking to our establishment, even if it is a quick 10 minute walk from base down the street.  Thats why as soon as we have our shuttles set up, we will let everyone know and hopefully the word will spread.

As far as our restaurant, we have received a pretty bad reputation past few years with the crowd that has been coming to our place, and the others around the area.  We have changed drastically, we no longer allow or tolerate these crowds and deny entrance to anyone we deem are not capable of coming to a place and just have a relaxing and good time.

I would also appreciate any feedback from any mother, father, sailor, etc. on how we can cater to your needs.  We are also working with some of the neighboring hotels to clean up their acts as we have, and with the police department and the navy itself, to make our area safe again for everyone.  Currently, we were the first restaurant in the area to take a zero tolerance stance against a lot of variables, including unwanted crowds, and it seems to have started a chain reaction since we have seen other restaurants, bars, venues in the great lakes and lake county area follow our foot steps.  It's been a hard 5 months since we put our foot down, but we are already seeing a great change!

Any help on your side, e.g. making links for us, is greatly appreciated from all of us here at Flanagan's and Full Moon Restaurant!

Peter

Wow...thank you so much...never knew. I had a mom recently who had a Sailor go through  a while back and mentioned your Meet and Greet (what a coincidence, huh!)...I will be sure to let the moms know all that you have written here. So many report how the Sailors get "jacked" at some "A" schools on taxi's and such. I know my son wouldn't leave the base because the taxi's were so expensive and their was no public transit (that he could find). He was at another base that wasn't as bad Public Transit etc. ...but yes, safety is always an issue.

You just make copy your Event page and I will add the links.

You might want to check RTC website to double check if and when the PIR dates are...for the ocassional Thursday PIR or in the event that they don't have one that week.

Thank you so much.  We are doing this every Thursday.  We were the original meet and greets for Navy 4 Moms years ago, and hoping to continue the tradition for years to come.

We have always been supporters of the Navy, and have made huge changes to the restaurant and bar to accommodate not only the Navy for Moms and Navy Meet & Greets, but also the Navy sailors.  After much needed change, we can now provide the safety and hospitality of a family establishment to the navy sailors who can also visit us on liberty and any time they leave the base.  We have already started working with the navy chiefs, administration and have been able to host their get-togethers here at Flanagan's as well as other functions these past few months during our change.

We will try our best to keep them safe when they are in our establishment.  We want to gain the trust of the parents as a place your sailor's can come to and enjoy good music, live rock bands, great food at reasonable prices (discounted rates for navy sailors with valid Navy ID's), and be able to enjoy watching games on TV from their hometowns.

We are looking into setting up free shuttles to and from the Navy Base to our restaurant (Flanagan's and Full Moon Restaurant) on weekends and weekdays to give the sailors the opportunity to get away for a while safely and economically.

We know this needs to be the place for the Navy Sailors to call home away from home since both our restaurants are located less than a mile from base and are willing to put in the effort to support and care for the sailors while at our establishment.

Your hosts,

Peter Psihos (Los Angeles, CA)

Gus Psyhogios (North Chicago, IL)

Wendy Kalk (North Chicago, IL)
