11/2/11- My son left for Chicago today- to begin bootcamp in Great Lakes, IL. Any one else???

Hello everyone!  My son left yesterday for New Orleans, and today boarded a plane with about 10-15 other recruits heading for Great Lakes, IL.  I had the opportunity to hear from him just before they boarded the plane today around noon and hoping for a call/text tonight when they finally get in to Great Lakes....from what I read, it will be a brief phone call.

My son Matt, is 20 and is going towards a MC - Mass Communication.  Im praying for him and his fellow recruits that they will keep their head up and know that all of us moms, dads, aunts and uncles and best buds love them and will be praying for them....

Anyone else have a son/daughter that left today for Great Lakes???

yeah i just got a call from Matt.  They are grabbing dinner then going for that hours drive to Great Lakes! He sounded good!

Yes.  my sister have driven up there before (not Great Lakes) and she will be driving with me (if we choose to drive -probably) but i think it will be better honestly because i understand that the graduation dates could change so as soon as we get the specifics on the dates etc for graduation i will be making plans  for travel.

my son left for great lakes today do you know what to expect, especially with holidays coming up

i dont know about holidays yet.  i do know that when  my son arrived he called very briefly and said that my next call would be in three weeks.  They wont be coming home for the holidays but at least i will have my phone call.  I did find a website that gives a day to day schedule of what they are/will be doing so you can feel much better keeping in touch with that site.  i refer to it everyday thinking okay this is what he is doing today.http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433

Hi Matthewsmom64, how are you holding up sweetie? Did you get the box or the form letter yet? Do you know what division he's in? Isn't it such an awful feeling not having our babies around and not being able to communicate with them? My daughter left 11/8 and not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her dearly. But I take comfort in the fact that I know she's where she wants to be. She waited 7 months before going to bootcamp and all she talked about during those 7 months was her life in the Navy... hang in there it does get a little bit easier though something tells me I'm always going to miss not having my daughter around.

Hi Matthewsmom64,

Yes my son left on the Nov. 2 with 8 recruits from Portland , Oregon. They arrived in Chicago in the late afternoon - he called me around 6pm our time. Then he called again around 10 pm (12am) there time to say he made it safely to the Naval Center. I have not heard anything since. I am hoping to get the form letter soon so we can begin writing. I bet our boys are in together. My son is going to be a corpsman.

Good luck and lets stay in touch. Kim

My daughter left Nov 8th. I have recievd her box and form letter. However, I am still waiting for the first actual letter. Have you guys recieved that letter yet. I am beginning to worry, I thought I would have had it by now. Anyways hoping to get it this week..take care, Holly.

My husband left today, he is in a hotel tonight in WV, and then going to Chicago tomorrow. Today has felt like the longest day ever..but it will be okay. :)

It wasn't my son, but my fiance. He left the same day from the same place as your son. His name is Jonathan and he is going for Information System Tech.
