For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I will be coming for PIR in January - I have never been to Chicago. I'm assuming I should be prepared for snow & really cold temps? I am nervous because I will be renting a car and driving from the airport to the graduation. Any tips would be great:)

I live in Chicago (well a suburb approximately 35 mins out of the City) but can help you navigate some things if you want. I would recommend renting a car as taxi can be very expensive. I was actually thinking about having us Moms and Dads gather someplace the next day to just get to know each other...but I am not sure if we will all be up to being social. Give me some feedback, if you are interested on would rather just lick your wounds and stay solo. Not sure which would be better...talking to other parents to ease our way through this next step or not.

Hey great! We are in chicagoland as well, shipping 16th. So our young man will be having his birthday during bootcamp, missing turkey day, christmas, and new year's. But this is all for good, and just the beginning in the service of our great nation.

I am having a pre-thanksgiving Thanksgiving on Sunday, the 15 so the holiday won't be so bad without him. One of the other ladies on this forum is doing that, so I stole her idea!

Looks like PIR may be on or about Jan 8, would be my guess. For those attending from south of IL, and warmer climates, yes, do bring your winter woolies, as the wind here is what makes it cold. You wont regret it if you have to be outside for any period of time.

Yes, 01/08/2016 or 01/15/2106. It will all depend of if the recruits are put in a division from the TG from the week before (a push division) or in a division from that week's TG.

My son has been signed up to leave for boot camp on 11/16 since March of this year. His departure date seemed like it would never get here and with a blink of an eye I'm now trying to soak up every last minute with him knowing I only have a few days left. Unfortunately for me everyone he knows is trying to do the same so its all about timing at this point. Poor kid, he probably can't wait to leave so he can get some peace.
I'm feeling like the biggest cry baby in the world and like the only mom going through this. I know this isn't true of course because I've had this place to confirm what I'm feeling is shared by many. I try my best to conceal my tears from my son and instead only share how proud I am of his decision to join the Navy. I really am so proud of him. It's just hard letting go.
The next challenge is trying to figure out all the details for the PIR.....where to stay, flights, etc. Also what clothing to bring is high on the list. We are coming from Texas where anything below 70 is considered cold and businesses are closed with a single snowflake sighting. It should be quite the adventure!

It will be very cold up here in January. Bring lots of layers and something that can keep the wind out. Put some Vaseline on your face to keep the wind from burning your face.
I am sick to my stomach that my son is leaving. He is my first child and my first to leave. This sucks...but in a "I know he will do great, I just don't want him to be great without me" sorta way.
