Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Instructions for the free Military Care Package Kit from the United States Post Office

Military Care Package Kit
Since Priority Mail service supplies are the packaging of choice for families preparing care packages for service members overseas, the USPS has created a "Mili-kit" based on the items most frequently requested by the military.

The kit contains:

Three (3) each of flat rate boxes O-FRB1 and O-FRB2
Two (2) each of Cube boxes OBOX7
Address labels - Label # 228 8 each
Address labels - Label # 106-A 1 each
Customs FORM 2976-A 8 EA.
Customs FORM 2976-E 8 EA.

The kit may be requested by calling 1-800-610-8734 (Packing Supply) and:

Choose your language (1 is English, 2 is Spanish).
Choose option 1 (it states it is for Express Mail service, Priority Mail or Global Express Guaranteed).
When you reach a live agent, request CAREKIT04.
Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
Note: These are free supplies, postage must be affixed.

I just got mine delivered the other day. I think that is so cool they do this. Thanks!!
These are the boxes that the post office gives away free to everyone - you don't have to be military to use these. The two smaller boxes cost $8.95 to mail and the larger box is $11.95 (I believe).

When sending a small box to Derek - I had it in a brown box - because it did not weigh much. It was going to be almost $20 to mail. I just switched it at the postal place and sent the same stuff for $8.95.

It is convenient to have plenty of boxes readily available. Especially if you are sending stuff to other Sailors in the Adopt a Sailor group.
The bigger boxes cost $10.95 to ship and if you are sending them to an APO or FPO mailbox, you have to complete a simple custom forms that travels with the box.

On the flip side, I was going to use one of these boxes to ship something to our son in GL and the box was just very light, full of ramen noodles and oatmeal and decided to use a different box than the flat rate box and it only cost me $5.00 to send it to GL, so I saved money by using a different box.

The flat rate boxes are fabulous for shipping to our sailors in the Adopt a Sailor program - $10.95 to Afganistan is quite a deal! But if using within the US, it's all about the weight, it you are loading a box up, take advantage of the flat rate of $10.95 but if it is light weight - just use a different box and pay by the weight and you could come out a head.
Thanks for the tips on sending the boxes! I'll be sure to remember about switching the box if it's light!
