Does anyone know what happens to a recruit's mail once they graduate? Is it forwarded to their "A" school? The good news is we are getting close enough to wonder ... when should we mail our last letter?

The US Post Office will probably be sending me...a get well card!!!

Hello Mary, I'm not exactly sure on this but I know my son did ask me to wait on all mail untill he got to where he was going he said he will call with the new address as soon as he got there and was allowed to. He wanted the pictures so bad that we took on Liberty but I couldn't find a 24 hour photo place anywhere around there. ughhh I had offered to overnight them but he said it wasn't a good idea, he was worried they would not get to him. I am anxious to get them to him.
Good Luck to you and your Sailor Have a great day.
Thank you Kathy, I haven't heard of any issues in this area but I just want to alert the family to stop writing. It does seem to take a few days when they move to their next school to get the new address. Congratulations on your graduation!
I stopped writing the last week they were in BC.
I think I have read somewhere on here that they do not forward mail, BUT that is not a fact just what I remember.
I know after BS they get ricky heaven and they probably dont care about mail as they did when they were BC stuff all day everyday. They are having a blast in ricky heaven. :)
Hey girl - about time you joined us...been lonely in here this morning!

I bet you are right about mail in Ricky heaven....hmmmm...ANOTHER letter from mom or a trip to Taco Bell after two months of healthy food?!!! Okay, I lose!
Ok, what is ricky heaven...they're in a holding pattern and get more privileges? Also I read somewhere else for those graduating the 18th, not to send anything past the 12th, until further notice of your grad.
Andrea
Andrea - good info on the mail dates that makes sense.

Ricky Heaven is the time they get after the battle stations and ball cap ceromony. They get privledges!! They get to call home...multiple times I understand. They get to watch tv, videos, play games, eat at Taco Bell and just enjoy the fact that they ARE sailors and most of them are looking forward to seeing their families for the first time in months.
So this ricky heaven is "before" graduation? My son just loves Taco Bell, so that'll be right up his alley.
It is before graduation :-)

My nephew ate at Taco Bell THREE times during Ricky Heaven! Guess what kind of food he missed in BC!
My son's mail was forwarded, but he's still in Great Lakes...so not sure about everyone else. His was mostly from friends who didn't know his graduation date and kept writing.....
I would think it being the mail, it would HAVE to be forwarded just like anyone else that moves in civilian life? They can't just throw it away. I understand if it gets delayed in the forwarding, but isn't it a federal offense to tamper with the u.s. mail?
I'm sure you are correct Andrea but I'm going to cut my mail off to BC 7 days before PIR but let our son know ...this is it and we will see ya in a week so he's not looking for mail.

I think as other moms have said that last week between battle stations and PIR = they are actually enjoying life and probably won't notice if ole' mom doesn't send another letter.
