All Hands Magazine's full length documentary "Making a Sailor": This video follows four recruits through Boot Camp in the spring of 2018 who were assigned to DIV 229, an integrated division, which had PIR on 05/25/2018.
**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

Is April 25th the date that you have been living for?! Twelve more days to go ladies! Will you be joining us for dinner at the Full Moon Cafe on Thursday, 4/24? I will be working on the reservation list this weekend, if you have not done so already, please let me know your son's name, division and ship # and how many will be at dinner. All divisions and family members are welcome!!!
I need to update the restaurant with a head count and I'm trying to make up name tags this week so you will be able to idenify the moms that helped you get thru the last couple of months.
Holding my breathe and hoping for a phone call after battle stations next week!!!
OH Mary I got chills when I saw this thread started by you:)
We have been so close on this site, (seems like forever now)
That I feel that this countdown to Nicks PIR is like another of my boys about ready to PIR again. You must take pictures (and for the love of god post them !! )
I just cant wait to hear your story's.
OK my favorite moment at PIR tip:
To see them all in unison is awesome, every little step, etc.
BUT there is one unison moment you MUST watch for that gave me chills.
When they say let us pray - dont bow your head to quickly, whatch them divisions closely. And they litterally bow in absolute unison. It IS a site to be seen.
Amazing. Still gives me chills :)
Ok now run off dear friend and start to pack...... dont forget the kleenex :)
Hey girlfriend, we would have never made it this far without YOU and so many great moms on this site! Nick is one of your other boys as much as you have lived thru this with us!
This weekend my focus is working on the headcount for the Thursday night dinner and see what kind of monster we have created!
Then I need to make reservations for the kennel for my favorite red head! Then I need to pack as Thursday I'm heading down to Gulfport to meet my sister. My favorite nephew is in A school and due to his grad 'n go orders she only got 20 minutes with him so we are going to make up for it next weekend!!! The exciting news is when I return from that trip...I will literally be leaving three days later for Nick's PIR!!! I'm trying to be VERY busy next week so I'm not frozen in time waiting for his call after battlestations. I know they have a really busy week leading into it.
Love your tips for PIR - I will use everyone of them! Nick was in the Navy ROTC program in high school and they did a PIR each year and I wonder how simliar the big Navy PIR is in comparision? I have refrained from watching the PIR ceremonies on youtube.com as I just want to relish in the moment as it unfolds in front of me.
Steve is taking the video cam and camera and he knows how to post all that stuff so we will definitely add to the site after. I won't even have to email Shell for directions!!! lol
I'm doing a new post...Snipes and Twidgetts!! Look for it soon, I have a funny story to tell you about that!
Mary - just looking thru posts I have somehow missed. My son is a 5/9 PIR, but when looking at this post noticed you are coming to Gulfport next week. I live in Long Beach, the next little town to Gulfport, and go by the Seebee base every morning on my way to work. Small world!Take lots of pictures at your Nick's PIR (especially the choir - my son will be in it) He said they will perform in the 4/25 and 5/2 PIR, then his own. I am sooo anxious to even get a glimpse of him. Maybe I will be lucky when you post your pictures and there will be one of him. Have fun on your visit to Gulfport. Let me know if you have any questions about the area. Melody
Hi Melody, we are going to take the video cam to PIR on the 25th and will try to film the performance bands and choir and then I hope to post them on the site for all of you moms that have sons and daughters performing!
I'm looking forward to Gulfport as it will help me pass away time this week while I'm waiting for that phone call from our son to say...he made it! And looking forward to spending time with my sister, we are staying at the Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi. Her son had grad 'n go orders so she only got to see him for 20 minutes after graduation so we are going to celebrate his graduation this weekend.
The unision that the divisions react in every aspect is breathtaking but then so is the huge door being opened and you see all the divisions lined up waiting to come in. My sailor said they all walked too fast but every PIR I have seen since they all walk as fast as he did. I guess maybe they are so anxious to strut their new stuff. The change in Nick will be so heart warming you won't know what hit you. I only wish I could have taken an innocent bystander along to do nothing but take the pictures so I could have enjoyed it even more.
Have fun on the 24/25. Definately put pictures and videos online for us all to enjoy along with you.
Thanks Jeanine, the excitment is getting out of control. When Nick called last he did tell me that his division would be the first one in the door and just know that is so awesome. It's going to be a wonderful day!
