We have a very special mission that we are going to ask all of our NavyforMoms.com members to support for the holidays.

Although the Adopt A Sailor program is only a few months old, as a group we have supported troops in Kuwait, Afganistan and Iraq. With the upcoming holiday season, we wanted to continue to support our sailors that we know won't be home with their families this year.

This group has grown so tremendous with almost 200 members and we had a goal in mind that would take alot of support. After much research and some emails inbetween, Molly and I are pleased to announce that our Sailor of the Month program for November and December will be...

The USS RODNEY M. DAVIS

This frigate will be home to about 250 sailors for the holidays.

Working thru their chain of command, we have received approval to support these sailors. This is an amazing opportunity and honor for us to be allowed to adopt this ship. This will be a big undertaking for our group but we know that Navy for Mom members know how to show the love!

Deployed ships often have limited mail deliveries so we have committed to having our mail delivered December 1 - December 8th. This will allow them to contain all of cards and holiday wishes together and deliver them to the crew before the holiday.

Our hope is for EVERY Sailor on that ship to receive a holiday card signed by Navy for Mom. We would like to include a $10 international phone card in the card so those Sailors may have an opportunity to call their loved ones. If you are not in a position to send a phone card, please do not let that stop you. Just write on the back of the envelope - no phone card included so as cards are distributed, some sailors don't get multiple phone cards and some get none.

So many of you have really stepped up the last few months and are spending $20 or more just shipping packages to our Adopt A Sailor receiptants. This will be an easier mission - no packages to send, no lines to stand in at the post office...just your holiday wishes with a regular postage stamp!!!

If you are a school teacher, Sunday School leader, Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop leader or part of any organization that would like to spread some holiday cheer to this group of Sailors, we would love to load them up with many holiday messages of support and cheer. Please think about using this a project for your group.

The Command Master Chief of the USS Rodney M. Davis has agreed to be our point of contact for this holiday project:

CMDCM(SW) C. W. Smith
Command Master Chief
Attn: Any Sailor
USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60)
FPO AP 96663-1514

Again, please forward your holiday messages to his attention between December 1 and December 8th.

Thank you for making the holidays a little brighter for this crew!!!

P.S. USS Rodney M. Davis moms - we could not find a group for the Davis on this site so we have set one up. If there are any Davis moms here, please join the group.

You are burnt out Diane...let's mail them December 1st...not Sept!! We want them there for Christmas not Columbus Day girly!

I've had a couple of teachers offer their students as well, I think we are going to make a lot of sailors smile!!
I have talked to the 4th grade teachers at the school I work at and they have commited to making cards for the Sailors. I am also going to talk to some others. What a wonderful way to let the kids know that Christmas is not just Santa. take care Leann p.s. pay it forward, it is contagious!
It has been my experience if you hit up local dentist in your area they would likely donate the toothbruses and floss and toothpaste. I have been doing this for many years and never had any one say no. Its always nice to have a a general form letter for donations too..

Geez do Navy moms think alike ! I was just thinking that very same thing :)
So ladies anyone willing to write up a form letter explaining what we are trying to do ?
If so we can just make a new discussion put the letter in it (no one comment) and then we can just print the form letter !! What do you think ?

I am going to try to get my Oregon Moms together for a letter writing party. Going to the dollar tree today and try to get all the boxes of cards they have ~~ Maybe I can hit them up for donating items :)
Our dentist has to pay for all her supplies. She said she would call if she gets any free samples. When I go back next week, I plan to ask her how much her samples cost--it may be worth it to start buying some come January's group.
As one who has my own business, I know I am hit up for more and more donations, and just can't do it anymore. Be considerate that if you live in a smaller town, those owners get asked for every fund raiser around.
Ok I just went to the dentist for what is one of 4 appointments and while I was there (in my snipe shirt) We were talking about the navy and adopt a sailor ship. I asked if I brought in a few boxes of cards if they would write letters for me (I will just box them all together in flat rate) Anyway they were so excited to help :) when i was walking out- they walked up to me and gave me 36 individual toothpastes for our sailors !! Whoopie -
OK...Melissa's day care {that she works at} is in....so the sailors are gonna get cards drawn by young children....
The daycare asked for the info. so I went ahead and printed out the main page for Adopt a Sailor {November-December} and gave it to them. If they have any questions they can direct them towards me....
Let my mind think a bit .....cause mary caught me a bit burnt out...I quoted Sept. instead of DEc. lordy lordy make one itsy bitsy mistake...and Mary is right there to swoop you up and throw you to the wolves...LOL
xoxoxoxo
DONT FORGET ~~~ this is important that they mail them between dec 1 and dec 8 !! I have started collecting cards and am going to just mail them in a flat rate box on those dates :)

Love it Diane ~ you go girl
OK Molly....you corresponded with the CMC...why just letters and phone cards...its that at his request...{Of course it is Diane}
Any whoooooooo
What would happen if we wanted and I DON'T mean JUST MAUH...send boxes....do ya think it would be bad Diane bad Diane...or it just wouldn't be enough for everyone so leave it alone Diane "thingy"
Miss Diane - you may send anything and everything you want during those dates ! The REASON why we asked for phone cards is because we want EVERY SAILOR to get something. IF we did it the *normal* way we worried that some guys may get things and others not :( So if we make sure they all get phone cards - then anything other then that is BONUS ! Send anything you want - BUT Please send at least one card with a 10.00 international calling card !! (we are also trying to get as many regular cards to them as possible w/out calling cards !
Did I explain that correctly ?
didn't you read my page today...."dumb today"
Don't you worry....there will be more then 1 phone card and card.....I will spread the cheer...
oxoxoox
It's only cause we love ya Diane!
