Hi All,

A boot camp Dad posted this on facebook and I thought is was so good, I wanted to share it her:

The Five Stages Of Loved Ones During Basic Training. Stage

1: Denial ... The first thought is one of disbelief. The person cannot believe their Loved One wants to join the Navy. (Are you kidding me???) This stage is often accompanied by deep sighs and a hope that sanity will return.

Stage 2: Anger “OK. Are you are just doing this to get even with me for something? Why are you trying to be mean me? Have you sought professional help?“

Stage 3: Bargaining “If you don’t go, I will cook your favorite meal EVERY DAY.”

Stage 4: Depression “OMG, (He /She) really is gone to Boot Camp. I won’t get a letter for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! And no phone calls for a MONTH! And I won’t get to see (him / her) for TWO MONTHS!!! Sigh… Life as I have known it is over… “

Stage 5: Acceptance “PIR is almost here!!! I am so excited!!! I am so proud!!! What am I going wear? How do I get there? Can my entire extended family attend? Can I stand next to my Sailor during PIR? Will there be an entire team of photographers and videographers dedicated to my Sailor’s every move? Can I meet (him / her) outside before they march in? Can I come live in their Division area with them until Graduation Day??? Etc… etc… And then suddenly, before you know it, you are sitting there and the door rises and in they march in to the Drill Hall ...

that is so true.  The first one for me was a little different but the others dead on.

Can they get care packages in boot camp. My grandson is in boot camp

No, you cannot send care packages to a receruit. Save those for "A" School and after. Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will tell you what you can and cannot send. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. If you knkow his PIR date, go to http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date
and join the group for that.

This is amazing..the words if comfort and support...as a single mom sending my oldest daughter of into the us navy is scary but quite husky the proudest moment of mother hood. She is currently in DEPs leaves Feb 4...I've heard there is a chance she could ship out earlier???true? False? I'm planning a find away party in Jan for her...any experience with leaving before their ship date?

If your future Sailor has asked to be considered for an earlier ship date, then it could happen any time between now and then with anywhere from a few days' notice to a few months' notice if someone else with the same contracted rating is unable to ship for some reason. She does not have to take an earlier ship date if it is offered though, but most do unless they have a good reason not to. She can also be requested to ship a few days earlier on very short notice if storms around the time of her ship date cause others to be delayed and they can get her processed out.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in February. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

You may also want to check out Women in the Navy, Mom’s of Navy Daughters, and Mom's of Daughters 2.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer her to some good links on there.

(Group names and the link within this reply are clickable links. To join a group, click on the group name and when the group page opens, click on "+ Join..." in the upper right.)

I didnt really go thru all the steps, I supported her joining just hoping boot camp ends quickly and I get a call soon.

Counting Fridays may be easier on you than counting days. Recruits typically graduate on the 9th Friday they are at the RTC, 10/04/2013 for your SR, but since he arrived on a Monday, it could be the week before, but for now expect it to be 9 Fridays until you get the form letter and know for sure.  See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC,

I sure understand that!
