For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

8/7 DEP date - Anybody else have a recruit leaving for BC that week?
My son heads to BC on 8/7. I've no doubt he'll be just fine; but, you guessed it.....I'm still holding back the tears! Anyone else leaving that week? If so, from where?

How many phone calls can we expect? I know the night they get there and the last one to say they are Sailors. Any ideas???

Not sure. I think 1 when they get there one 3 weeks later and one saying they are a sailor.

I've heard those are the only two 'certain' phone calls and any others need be earned and will likely be unexpected. I've decided to keep my cell phone pretty much connected to my body until after BC when there'll be more flexibilty. He knows to call first on my cell during certain hours or at the house phone if in the evening. I'd send your preference on which number to call in your first letter.

I was bad anyway with my cell when my son was in college. I am worse now, I take it to the bathroom with me have it beside me at work and work out with my phone. I am addicted to waiting on him to call me lol.

Be sure to call forward you house phone to your cell when you leave the house too. I did that when my oldest went to college and bow doing it again. I sure d obt want to miss any opportunity to talk to my son

So far I have gotten 3 calls since she left 8/7 and I'm sick to my stomach that I missed all 3. There is a 2 hour difference but I swear I wont miss another call should it come. The last call she left a message that she should be calling in 3 weeks and that I would be receiving a letter. I'm hoping it has info of when we can come out to see her graduate...

It will! The letter she's referring to should be the initial form letter that provides you her mailing address and PIR date. Sad to hear you've missed her calls. Her convo with you would have only lasted about 15 seconds anyway....just long enough to let you know she's arrived safely......fortunately, you already know from just having received the calls. Breathe easy - at least you know she's safe at her destination and on to doing great things. Hang in there lomasre!

AJ left 8/8/12. Got the kid in the box today 8/13. So sad but happy too. I thought he would be sending his glasses home. Even got him a new hard case and they were not in the box, I thought they issued BC glasses ? Possible hes got them in his locker and would get to wear them at PIR
