I received paperwork from my son to fill out in order to participate in adopting my sailor. I will get to pick him up at 8 am Christmas morning and return him at 8 pm. His PIR group is 01/07/11. I am so excited and cannot wait to see him. It is only one day, but I will treasure that one day with him. Some of your recruits may also qualify for this program. If they are not adopted out - I think most of them get invited by local church groups, VFW, other organazations, and even individual families that open up their home to allow recruits to have a home like Christmas. You are allowed to get your recruit plus one other.

Only certain PIR groups where sent the letter. Not all recruits will be taken off base for Christmas, only a very small % end up going off base.
Hi does anyone know if the recruit had to send out the form or if it is coming from office.
On the RTC facebook page, the public affairs office responded that recruits graduating 1/7 and 1/14 are eligible for adopt a sailor... and my husband wrote he heard a rumor they might get off base for christmas... but i'm still waiting on any paperwork because it's only for sure if you get the packet. Congrats to you for getting one, what an exciting surprise!
I hope you get one also. He does get to go off base - he just has to stay within 50 miles of base. I received it Friday!!!
My son sent the "adopt a Sailor for Christmas" form home in a letter......I got it last wednesday.....His PIR date is Jan. 14, 2011....Do you need to send the form back if you are not able to pick him up. will they still let him go with the Churches and other groups with out the form?
