Just got my husbands info in the mail today. Ship 14 Div 275 with a PIR date of Aug 13th. I'm so happy now. I had a countdown going from Aug 24 and when I got the news that it's the 13th, I was so excited to drop those days. I can't wait to see him! I got a few words from him at the bottom of the info letter too. Made me feel so much better. Now I have to start planning our trip to see my husband graduate!

I will ask about John Medina. My husband might call me tomorrow since they're considering tomorrow a holiday but if not I'll probably hear from him when he goes to the NEX on Tuesday.

I told him today that there were a few moms on her with kids in his ship/div and he said "Oh, do you know any of the kids names?" and I said no. He thought it was kinda cool.

When did John leave for bootcamp?
Hi, my son Nick is on Ship 14, Div 275, with PIR for August 13th as well. Glad to finally see fellow "shipmate" families here. I only got the initial letter with the graduation stuff and the little note from Nick at the bottom. I did get the phone call the night of June 17th when he arrived. We have reservations that the Ramada for graduation, if you haven't made any plans yet, I understand they have a meet and greet for the families there. My son is 18, and I can't believe how much I miss him. I keep saying to myself that when he gets to A school, things will get better. Atleast there he can have his phone and computer, and we can talk. It's very comforting to know that all we are feeling is shared by so many family members across the country. Take care, and let us know if you hear anything, and I will do the same. Thanks, Karen
My husband is in Ship 7, Div 280 PIR date of Aug 13th. I'm so glad to find some others in this boat. I keep checking the mail box and haven't gotten anything yet. This morning I got a phone call because he needed info for his clearance. He talked for just a minute and told me the mail wasn't picked up til this past Sunday, so it probably went out in the mail on Tuesday. He said they wrote them very late at night, so being tired the letter may sound more down than he's really feeling or doing. So just an fyi for all of you. Hopefully letters will begin arriving soon, but they may sound tired or whatever in the letter. He also talked about space being so limited, he wasn't sure if he could keep all the letters we send. So it is true about them having no space. Anyways, I'm so glad to be on here with you all.

Are any of your recruits in the A2E program? I think that may be why they're getting pushed through so quickly. My husband said that he joined a division that was formed the day before he got there, so he's learning all the day 1 stuff on the fly. That's all I know, but wanted to share the general info just in case you wanted to know, cause boy I wanted to know!!!
Thanks for the update Navywifebeth...I was hoping with the holiday that mail might just be running late this week. I haven't heard from my son Nick at all except for the form letter the 2nd week and the first night phone call. My son is heading to Connecticut to sub school, but I'm not sure if that is the same program as your husband or not. I'm just learning how all this works, just like everyone else I guess. I appreciate the update about the mail. Several families have reservations at the Ramada for August 12th, me included. I understand that they have a meet and greet there for the families, and that you don't have to be a guest to attend, you just need to RSVP, and meet some of the other families. I will post as soon as I hear from my Nick, and hang in there. Sincerely, Karen
Finally received two letters from my son. He wrote them this past weekend. He does sound tired and did mention they are doing ALOT of IT.
Thanks Barb for the update. I can't wait to get home from work now and see if my son Nick has written. We haven't gotten anything yet, except the form letter. He too is in Ship 14, DIV 275. I hope your son is well, and you too :-) I'll post if I hear from mine. Thanks again, I'm relieved that someone from his group is writing.
I actually couldn't read his letters! When I got to the part where he said he missed home, I lost it. My husband had to finish reading the letters! I know they say to expect this, but wow. My son is going to be a nuke. Sounds like your son also?
Our recruiter prepared me for the first couple of letters. He said to not get too upset, that the first 2 or 3 will break your heart, but he promises by the 4th or 5th, they get so much better. That first few weeks is a shocker I guess. My son is heading to Connecticut to submarine school, electronics. It's funny, although you think you are prepared for all of this, there is no way to describe what we Moms are feeling. I never wanted to cry when I said goodbye to him, even in phone calls, I wanted to be strong so that he could be strong. It's so nice to be able to share our tears here. The good news is, you heard from him, and he is fine. Hold onto that, and keep your fingers crossed that I too will have a letter when I get home. I'll let you know.
I am hoping that you will get a letter(s) today also! They were postmarked on the 6th. I work at our local post office. So this morning, while I was sorting the mail - in the last tray and the last handful of mail - were his letters. I had let out a small gasp of surprise. I only had to work 1/2 day today, so I didn't want to read them until I got home and could share them with my husband (who is off today). I too did not want to cry, I wanted to be strong for him, but that is my little boy that I sent off to BC. Hugs to you!
Hi all...I got my first letter today too!!! I was so ready for the "down" letter our recruiter said would come, but was so surprised at how up beat my son Nick was. He says the entire Ship of guys are "great", and his bunkmate "Simpkins" and he have quickly become "tight". If Simpkins family is on here, please find me so I can thank you for your son. :-) My son actually said that I was right when I told him to work out harder at the gym before he left, and that he actually has "abs" now. He also said that they all got their fatigues the other day which helped their morale greatly, that they felt like they were accomplishing things now. The only other piece of information I thought I would share was that he said they only write on Sundays from 0500 to 1300, so don't worry if we don't hear from them each week, some Sundays they are just pooped.
All in all, I'm so relieved. I'm sure all letters won't be so good, but grateful that this one was...gosh I miss his face. I hope this helps you all, and look forward to hearing what your guys have to say as well.
Thanks for all you support...
Karen
Anyone out there get a phone call from our DIV yet?
I was the same way... I got choked up reading his letter. My aunt had to read it for me :(
