April's Adoption is another first for MAS and its no April Fools' Day Joke!

This month we are going to stay in the sandbox but "Shhh! Quiet, please.", we are going to visit our 2 hospitals.  However, this time we are going to send some special mom-love to the extra special staff teams that take care of our wounded heroes.

About the time, they receive their packages it will be Hospital Week for many USA hospitals - a time to recognize, celebrate & show appreciation for all the hard work hospital staff does.  I can't think of any staff that works harder than the personnel at SHUK and the CRCC / Wounded Warrior Unit.  The national theme for hospital week is "Making Miracles Happen."

Besides their wish list items, I thought we might consider ways to send them a party & show our appreciation for all they do. The staff breakdown is:

          SHUK has 25 males & 15 females

          CRCC/WWU has 50 males & 25 females

Here is the wish list for both groups:

  • Canned or bagged tuna fish and chicken
  • Summer sausage
  • Beef jerky
  • Dried fruits
  • Canned vegetables
  • Coffee & tee
  • Non-dairy creamers
  • Trail mix
  • Crackers
  • Uncle Ben's minute rices
  • Flavored drink powders

Hygiene:

  • Shaving cream (NO aerosols) and razors
  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste and dental floss
  • Body wash
  • Q-tips

For Females:

  • Pedicure/manicure items.  Nail polish (light pink or nudes) & polish remover.
  • Lip balm (can be light pink or nude)
  • "Girly scented lotions & body wash (no strong scents which may cause allergic reactions with patients!)
  • Body wash scrunchies
  • Shampoo and conditioners
  • 2 women at SHUK would like Nice & Easy hair dye in Golden Blonde

Misc:

  • Air fresheners
  • Books & Games
  • Magazines (fitness, weight lifting & running types)
  • Plastic utensils

AND, THE MOST ASKED for items ~~ Mail.  Letters. Notes. Pictures drawn by children!

Their CO states, "These warriors are providing valuable medical services to our comrades wounded during combat operations.  Anything that would bring a sense of home will mean so much ... !!"

Pillowcases can be received.

Shipping will be 4/22 -29.

There are only 100 people, perhaps we can provide each with a box of their own.  And, food items for a party/celebration in a separate box to share with all.  Please don't forget the MAIL!!

This is the count so far & WHERE to send your box(es):

Whit's Mom - 6 boxes -- CRCC/WWU

NYPD, I have already started checking my "stash". Someone donated plastic utensils and have been waiting for an opportunity to send them. So to start, count me in for the plastic utensils!!!!!

Wonderful idea for these heroes! Count me in!
I'll commit to one box female and one box male.

Count me in for one box of books and one box of food/snack items.

Cory (home from the Navy in Feb 2011) and Carissa are expecting their 1st baby this month!  She is due April 24th.......

Congratulations Julie!  Will this be your first grandchild?  My Mom used to say first or fifteenth, didn't matter, they were all so special!

What size box did you want to send for each person??  Is this send nine of the VCR size boxes in the APOFPO box?  Or did you want a full size APO/FPO box for each person??

I really don't know!  What is the first box you were talking about?  I know the small box which might hold one VCR tape & then the large box.  I had planned to send the usual large boxes.

In the past when we sent a box for each person it was a VCR sized box and we could fit eight or nine of them in the bigger flat rate box to for shipping...  that way we are sure to have enough for each person and we have plenty of moms sending items for their party... or did you just want to send as many boxes as you can??

Just a couple of questions, because I'm not picturing it very well, what got packed in the small boxes?  It would seem like if you put in say shampoo & conditioner, that would be it.  Or, (just thought of this), did you put XYZ and then sent a box of items to share - like the hygiene items?

Sorry, Susan.  I'm all confused here.  Feel free to call me if you'd rather talk it out.  I'm going to look - I may have your number, in which case I'll call you!

I will keep track of the total numbers of boxes and closer to the ship date determine who should send their box to which facility.  We have 2 different mailing addys this month -- one for SHUK and one for the CRCC/WWU.

Thanks for asking Donna,  This will be my 7th (OMG!) grandchild.  Cory is the youngest of 3 boys and each of the older kids have 3 children.  BUT, this will be my 2nd grand-daughter !!!  Cory got the nursey painted last month and the crib put together a week ago.

I have printed off the "Wish List" for this month's adoption and will take it into the hospital tomorrow....I may have a few more boxes to send out.  I'll let you know.

Thanks Julie!  That would be great if some other hospital staff might be able to participate.  And note of encouragement from staff in the States to deployed staff.  :)
