Hi - my son leaves for boot camp on 11/20/17.  He wanted to leave right after he enlisted, but this is the date he was given.  It's good in a way as he has more time to prepare, but he really just wants to get started.  If anyone else has a loved one  leaving for boot camp this November, please feel free to respond.  It would be nice to go through this process together!

Crazy to think about, but, there are now less than 100 days before DD leaves on the 21st.
The countdown begins...

Definitely hard to believe its less than 100 days, it's gone by so fast.  It might be a little sooner for my son though, his recruiter told him that he thinks they will be pushing up his date to report to boot camp; that they may call him and he will have two days to report.  I get a knot in my stomach now every time the phone rings, but I guess uncertainty is something we all will need to get used to...

Be sure that you have addressed all of the things in Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... It is especially important to discuss who the four guests will be and who will attend if your future Sailor ends up in a large TG and only has three guests. This is important since only those with a ticket with their name on it can access the RTC if they are ages 3 and over; those ages 2 and under can still attend. (Yes, there will be tickets rather than just names on the Access List.)

I understand,serenity24.  My son signed up in June; it seemed like November was so far away and now the days seems to just fly by.  And his recruiter has told him at his last couple of DEP meetings to be prepared for them to push up his date for boot camp so every time my phone rings, I have to take a deep breath and then answer it...But my son is really anxious to go and get started already.

We are all here for each other, so just reach out whenever you need to...everyone has been so supportive on this site.  Both my son and I have learned so much about boot camp and the process by going through this site, there is so much great information; it has made the process a little less scary.

Just shy of 2 months to departure, DD met with her recuiter today. All is going well as the countdown continues. She did find out that she will be going in as E-3. That makes her happy. She guesses it's because of college credits earned and referring others to her recruiter (though she's not sure if any of her friends have totally followed through).

I wonder if now the RDCs expectations will be higher for her.

That's terrific!  Congrats!!

Good morning summer_girl! Same here, my recruit wanted to leave right away too, and these last couple of months seem like the longest months of my life! lol... My recruit leaves the end of November as well. the amount of information to absorb is overwhelming, at least for me anyway!

I had posted separately asking about whether or not the recruits leaving in November will have liberty for Christmas/New Years or do they stay on base as normal? I wasn't able to find any information on this site regarding that.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hi hooyahsuzy and thank you doll for the information! Have a blessed day!

Well, here we are on the final few weeks at home before our son leaves for BC.  We are so excited and proud and nervous and anxious all at the same time.  What else should we be doing for him besides the POA, etc.?  At his DEP meeting, a rep from the Navy Credit Union gave them information about opening an account for their direct deposit.  Do they have to use the Navy Credit Union?  What are the advantages if any over the credit union our son is already banking with?

We are about 24 days out from sending him on his way.  Also, any ideas for a sendoff party?  We were thinking about having it at a restaurant or sports bar or bowling alley.  Or maybe a simple BBQ at our house.

Thank you!

BigMosMom

My son goes 11/16/17.  He too signed up back in April, but this was the date he was given.  He wanted to go sooner.

KKNOhio, I left info for you on your My Page.
