HI!! My only child...daughter...arrived at boot camp on August 11th. We left the Columbus, Ohio MEPS and we were actually allowed to go to the airport with them and watch them leave from there. So that was nice that we got to see her onto her flight. She txtd us when she landed and called from the bus on the way, so we got to talk to her almost her entire trip there. She also called me from her cell phone when she arrived at boot camp...I was shocked to see her cell number on my caller id. It was about 730pm eastern time. I asked her how she was doing so far and she sounded really irritated and said "it sucks". No tears which was good...I would've lost it. She was able to talk for about 2 min. It seems it really just depends on who the instructors are, as to how the phone calls happen. I was lucky but I really feel for those of you who haven't gotten the call yet. I've been waking up at 730am (their time) the past couple mornings, feeling sick and wondering about her. Have only cried a few times, but the cries last a couple hrs. Its really hard to lose your only child and know that they are under so much stress and emotional turmoil...although I realize thats part of basic training and it gets easier as time goes by. Well I hope a few of us have kids together, it would be nice to compare letters/stories and look forward to PIR together. She is Ship 10 Div 332....her recruiter posted her address the day after she got there on her facebook page. Anyone have kids in same ship/div? ~Tiffany~
Blake's box arrived this afternoon. Lots of tears. So happy he wrote a "love you Mom" note on the tag from his new Navy socks. It was so good to even get that little peice. My husband has been playing telephone tag all day with the recruiter. If only I could get his address!!!!!! I think I'd feel better.
aww...i hope i get a little something from Katlyn, besides her dirty underwear...never thought to tell her not to mail me those haha. good luck on getting the address! was a little easier once i got hers and knew her ship/div....but not enough to where i can put the tissues away :/
Me too OhioNavyMama, I hope I get something special besides dirty underwear and dirty socks in my box!!! lolMy son arrived at BC on Aug 10th. I got to chat with him for a while before he left the airport. He said that he was fine and was looking forward to doing more that just sitting and waiting. Did you get the PIR date too?? You know that you can take her ship/div and find out the PIR date. I remember seeing it somewhere on this site. lol I have been all over the site! There is also a video that shows where they are and explains some of what they will be doing. Look under videos for Navy Racks - Boot camp something like that. Made me feel better to see where he is eating and sleeping and some of the things he will be doing.
Yea i cant find the PIR thing, so idk what it is yet :( I also watched the videos...was nice to see and didnt look as bad as i thought but then again...they are making a video so im sure they arent going to show them yelling at them and stuff. Maybe we will have same PIR. I'll friend you!
I think they need to finish processing this week, then next week starts week one and they can schedule the PIR date. Keep checking with the recruiter, seems to get info faster. Mine said he would get me the date soon.
I was out of town yesterday and looking at the posts on my phone. Read about some of you that got the boxes.
Got home late to find a little slip of paper from Fed Ex saying they will redeliver Monday..... I was so sad.
I told my sons to throw away the underwear and NOT send them home. I bet those guys tucked their cell phones and clothes INSIDE the undies. Can't wait to see my boxes.
We just received our son's ship and division numbers, he is also in Ship 13, Division 330 with your son. I can send him our letter's first thing in the morning! Yeah!
How are you doing almost a week later? My neighbor whose husband was a marine in Vietnam, son was in the army, and a son-in-law in the air force promises that it gets a little bit easier with the passage of each day. I'm not so sure yet :)
Anyone else with a kid in Ship 13? Anyone have any idea how the ships are divided / chosen?
My son is on Ship 13 Div 329. He arrived to BC on 10 Aug.

My daughter left Aug. 9, she is 18. She is so excited about her new journey in life. Her whole family is proud of her and will miss her. So fair I've gotten the phone call, and the kid in the box, BUT NO letter with the address. Should I call her requiter or just wait?
Call the recruiter. That's how I got mine.
