So our son left for Great Lakes last week.  He was told that he would start this adventure with 14 days of quarantine due to Covid 19 and then he would start the 8 week schedule.  His class is the first one to have this two weeks added so obviously the schedules on this and other websites may not be followed.  Not sure when he will be able to call home, not sure when he gets assigned a ship, not sure when we get a form letter, not sure.......

I wanted to start this thread so folks in the same bucket can share knowledge and we all learn together.  I have an request into his recruiter but have not heard back.

Hi my Son is on the Theodore Roosevelt . He is a Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer. I spoke to my son last night. He said they are not doing well on that ship. He just wants off that ship. Our children need help, there are 100 more sailors that are infected with this Virus and more to come. No one is helping them. I’m calling different ranks of the navy and I’m coming out empty.

Hello Proud Mom, I'm just curious as now it's a month since your discussion above in reference to the Roosevelt, how your son and the more than 100 sailors infected are now?

I'm still in the beginning stages to all of this & can't understand why they keep taking in recruits with the pandemic uncertainty.

My daughter leaves tomorrow for BC and we were also told she would be in quarantine for 2 weeks. I do know that they will be at a hotel off site. Other than that I have no idea either. Praying she can call soon after she arrives. I have a great relationship with my daughters recruiter but I try not to bug her but I think I’m gonna put in a text to her today to pick her brain and see if she knows more of what will happen. I’ll report back. Hang in there Francis.
Ok so I wasn’t able to speak with my daughters recruiter yesterday so we are still clueless. My truck broke down on the way to drop my daughter off for BC so she called an Uber while I sat on side the road for 3 hours.
At least she made it on time. I was so upset I couldn’t see her off but I know she will do well at BC.

Hang in there Haley'sMoM!  Keep your phone handy.  I'm guessing if she had to be at MEPS yesterday then she is flying out this morning.  You should get a quick 30 second "I'm here" call.  Then you "hurry up and wait".

I also left you the link to the "Moms of Daughters" group in the welcome message on your page.

Haley'sMoM - I am sorry about all of the mishaps with your truck. I follow the main BC Mom comments in my regular email feed and I did not see your message here. A couple of us have posted comments there, letting you know we were thinking about you. Like B'sNukeMom said - you will likely get an "I'm here" call on your daughter's cell phone. Hopefully, she is able to call you before she is picked up at the airport. So many things are different right now, but my son's call, almost 3 years ago now, did not come in until late in the evening. It will sound like a recording, at least mine did. They are reading off of a script and you won't be able to talk to them. Try to get in an "I love you" but you also want to pay attention since the call may give you more info on the quarantine time -

Oh I just seen your message here. I thought I was being ignored lol. Anyway I got the I’m safe call from her. She wasn’t reading anything. She actually got to talk about not knowing if she will be keeping her phone or not for these first two weeks. But she did say I made it I’m safe so I guess like you said it’s hurry up and wait. Lol. Thanks for your support!

Haley'sMoM - Sorry, I think I missed this message when I replied below.

It is really best to post your comments to the main BC Mom page. It is a lot easier for most of us that volunteer on this site do notice comments there.

You have not been forgotten about or ignored by any means.

Well just got the I made it I’m safe call from my daughter. She said she isn’t sure if she will be able to keep her phone for the 2 week quarantine period. I guess we will know soon but at least she got to call and tell me she made it.

Haley'sMoM - I am so glad that you received your I'm Here call!  Remember that even if your daughter is not able to have her phone during the quarantine time, you may start writing letters to your daughter. We recommend that you wait until you receive the form letter to make sure you have her correct address. So, when writing your letters, you might want to number them  as well as date them, so that when they arrive to your daughter, she knows which order to read them in.

Hi Haley'sMoM,

I am so sorry. I have been wondering about you. I had no idea you were commenting on here. Praise God that she made it there safely and I'm sorry you had truck problems while taking her to MEPS. This post is gonna be behind so I'm gonna catch up with you on your news.

No mam you have not been ignored or forgotten about. I'm just glad you posted somewhere.  :)

Yay. I'm glad you got the I'm safe call. If you can post on the main page then all of us volunteers can you see your comments and be able to help you. So hopefully she'll be able to call while in quarantine.

Yes, now you can start writing her. I wrote mine twice a day once in the morning and then before I went to bed. I think it was just as good for me as it was for him. And yes number your letters so she knows what order you wrote them in.

Anyways, try and stay busy, we are all here for you. :)
