NEW MEMBER THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WEB SITE. MY SON LEFT FEB 8
FOR BOOT CAMP. CLEVELAND TO GREAT LAKES. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MY
SON WALK AWAY. IT REMINDED ME OF HIS FIST DAY OF SCHOOL BUT, ALOT WORSE.
I AM VERY PROUD OF OUR SONS/DAUGHTERS WHO ARE ABOUT TO GO ON A JOURNEY OF
A LIFE TIME. I HOPE ALL OF US MOMS GET THROUGHT THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME.
My son also left February 8. I guess what we're feeling is pretty normal after reading some of the posts on this page. It was difficult seeing him walk away and then the short, "I'm here" phone call was hard. The not knowing anything is insane, but I guess we've raised them to succeed in whatever is thrown their way, so I'm hopeful that he is doing well. He would probably think that I was crazy for the sudden bouts of tears at every thought that reminds me of him.
I'll keep in touch with you and hopefully we will find others who had the same departure date we did and find some comfort in that.
I also started writing him letters to send once I have his address. This has helped me.
Dawn, thanks for responding. I too have started writing letters as well. Just not knowing what he is doing and how he is feeling is difficult. It would be awesome to find other moms who had the same departure date as us.
Keep in touch. Thanks again, carol
The information in the guide will help you.
If has videos, powerpoint presentations, tips, links to groups on Navy For Moms, Recruit Training Command and more. Use this as your reference guide. Good luck and please thank your sailor recruit for us.
I found this group under a BC forum. It was started by another mom with the same date and has a few others who have commented about their child leaving the same time.
Once you get your FORM LETTER, you'll know what your official PIR (boot camp graduation) date will be. Here is a blog we have that tracks new groups (Navy For Moms) formed associated with PIR dates. You'll see highlighted areas with call outs so when you get your letter, you know what ot look for. The latest group formed is for Mar 30, 2012. I am guessing yours should be this date or the next one.
Good luck to all and thank you.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHT. CAROL
Hi,my son also left Feb 8 from California to GL. I have been having the same feelings. I have never been a weepy mom -- but this feels so different. The toughest thing I have ever done was let go of him. Everyone keeps trying to reassure me by telling me my son is going to be fine... etc. Sometimes I want to scream, "I know he is going to be fine! I encouraged him to do this!" He is going to do great and I am very happy and so proud of him... but I miss him so much it hurts. I realize from this site, that my feelings are pretty standard and that I will feel better soon. I think it's the lack of contact that makes it so hard. I keep seeing other mom's comments whose kids left around the same time, that they have already gotten the form letter with the graduation date and mailing address. I have written letters that I can't send yet, watched the videos and read everything I can to give me some insight as to why it seems to be taking so long. I thought his PIR date would be 4/6, but the group has already been formed and I haven't received the letter yet. I received the box yesterday so I am hopeful that the letter will arrive shortly -- before I go insane. I'm glad to have come across this site with mom's with the same date - Thanks!
