wow hartman, I am so sorry. He will probably call again with the exact reason for the medical discharge.

I pray that it is nothing serious with his health and I pray for you during this difficult time. Bad enough to have to let him go, then to feel that the rug has been pulled out from under you is doubly hard.

He will go to Ship 5 (separation) and you might want to check out bootcamp.navy.mil, then the "Families" tab and Ship 5. It will tell you about where he will be. While my sailor was in Ship 5 THU, he was Yeoman and handled the separation paperwork and said it was tough seeing guys being discharged for things they knew nothing about and totally beyond their control.
I'm so sorry hartman - my heart just breaks for you both -- and this is going to be a blow that is hard to recover from - but recover from it he will -- this young man of yours is tough enough and strong enough and had the internal fortitude to make the decision to join and to see it through-- he will find his feet again and make a success of his life outside the military as well - my prayers..........Lace
I'm sorry Hartman. It is quite a blow to think that your career you've been planning for over a year has suddenly been pulled out from under you. But it is better now than after going through weeks of BC. My son had two friends that did that. Both were pulled for medical reasons, but had gone over halfway through boot before they knew it.
hartman!!!!! I am just now reading your post!!! Oh wow! I was busy at work today.....then when I got home....I hadn't checked my email. I will go check email now! I am soooo sorry. Please keep all of us informed.
Hartman, I am so sorry to hear your news. I will keep you and your son in my prayers. That call you received is one of the calls we all dread. I pray it is nothing serious about his health. I understand your ambivalence about him wanting to be a SEAL and how scary it was when he told you. I also understand that of course you will be happy to see him, but saddened because his dream has ended. We "spoke" before when we were talking about the safer desk jobs. We both know that our sons have really wanted to be a SEAL and to have it taken away for something that they probably have no control over is heartbreaking. My son, and probably yours too, waited quite a while for this opportunity. Your son is stong, I know, or he wouldn't have wanted to be a SEAL in the first place. He and you will get through this. It may take a while, but he has got to be one special young man to want to put himself in this very demanding position in the first place. I don't know what else to say except we have to believe that God has a plan for us and he doesn't give us more than we can handle. Your son's plan will be revealed to him at some point,I know that might not help much right now, but I hope it will in t future days.. He will have to grieve for this lost opportunity first, I am sure, but time will heal him. Please keep communicating and let us know what is happening and how you and he are doing. Jane
Hartman, I just read your post...my heart breaks for you and your son. I think you have helped me a lot with your post as I am concerned about getting that call too...I will pray for you and your son...there is always a future!

Ha!!! Finally!! I have a ship and division number!! Woo Hoo!! My son is in Ship 10 division 256 - no grad date yet - and no form letter - but hassling his recruiter finally paid off -- he brought it up on the computer while I waited and then emailed it to me so there would be no mistake -- happy day -- happy day -- finally I can send these letters on their way!!!
billysmom, This is so funny. The day I received the form letter, my son's girlfriend came over to read it, too. We all are on the same wavelength I guess.
Lace, Yippee! Its a good feeling to finally get that address. Send those letters!
