Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Boot camp question
Can anyone help me? I am super new to all of this and have so much anxiety! My son goes to MEPS in Troy Michigan on January 15th for his final swear in and goes to the airport to leave for boot camp January 16th in Chicago. Can someone tell me what time I should be at MEPS to accompany him for the swear in? His recruiter has been of no help to me. In fact, he has not returned my calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We saw our daughter off on Monday and the doors didn’t open until 9 am . Maybe call the MEPS center and hopefully they can tell you. Hope this helps .

That would be because only people who have someone going to the same swearing in would know the answer to that. And it's a little concerning that you don't just ask your son.

My advice is to go early! I also would call MEPS beforehand to ask. My wife's recruiter gave us the wrong information and I missed the 30 minutes they gave us to say goodbye!! I went "early" from what time they told us to be there so I made the last 5 minutes. If I would have went with what the recruiter says I would have missed everything including the swear in! I know most people don't have that experience, but I did, so I would definitely call MEPS beforehand :).

Thank you! That is the same experience I have noticed thus far. My son’s recruiter has given us different answers multiple times. It took four calls to the station before he returned my call. I found that very odd and frustrating.

Also, all the anxiety is normal. I've seen so many comments on this site with recruiter horror stories! It shouldn't be that way, but sadly it is :(. You aren't alone and the admins here are amazing! They usually comment on everything once things get up and going in the morning. Also, the ask your son comment, just ignore everyone has a different experience and I understand what your experiencing first hand. My wife knew NOTHING about MEPS. She didn't have the best recruiter so why would she, she's never been through this before! I was at every meeting with her and they still gave us the wrong info lol so 100% call and ask MEPS what time you should be there :). In Houston it was 9:00 (not the 10:15am I was told lol.)

I appreciate your response and help! Thank you. It’s a relief to hear I am not the only one with these questions and experiences. They also told me 10:30 but they had given me incorrect dates and times prior to this so I am questioning his information. I want to be certain I am given the correct time.

No worries! You are most definitely not alone. You'll find the ladies on the Boot camp group super sweet and helpful. (The comment section is great!) Also, 10:30am sounds late, but IDK so definitely reach out to the MEPS center. I'm probably just nervous for you because of my experience lol. It was the worst feeling in my life not being there for her!

My son was told for us to be there at 9am so we were nearby having breakfast when he called and told us to actually come at 830. We had to wait in a line outside to go through security so it was 9 am before we got in, and then we still had to wait around before swearing in began! I believe they do different branches at different times, when we left there was a huge line waiting to get in for another branch. Be sure everyone entering MEPS has a valid government ID!
