Child not assigned to division/ship after 5 days, is this normal?

My daughter left for GL on 12/15. I called the recruiter this morning, hoping to get an address. He said that has not been assigned a ship or division, so the address is not known. Is this normal after 5 full days? He says there is nothing to worry about, just that there are not yet enough recruits to assign her. He encouraged me to call back on Wednesday(2 more days).Has anyone experienced this?

Don't worry, this isn't unusual. The recruiter is correct, they have to wait until they have 70 or 80 recruits before they can form a division. Because it's so close to the holidays there may not be as many recruits as normal. They'll be keeping her busy and they wouldn't let her have any of her mail right away anyway so she's not missing out on anything. Start writing letters, number them, and as soon as you do get her full address you can start mailing them.

thanks so much for the info

I called today and the recruiter had just left  He finally got my son's address today but looks like I won't get it till tomorrow.  Looks like I will have another letter ready to go!  Funny thing is we got the box last Thursday.  I just would like his mail to get to him before Christmas.

I know just how you feel abut the Christmas letter. Even if we get the address tommorrow, and sent it priority, it will not reach them by Christmas.from what I have been told. Unless they make an exception, they only get mail on Sunday.....this is a tought one. I just want to hear my daugter's voice and know she is ok. I wonder how Christmas will be for them and I will thinking of the recruits all day long....I just got the box yesterday and I could not get the recruiter at all today. I hope you get the address tomorrow, it will make your day! Linda

It took about 3 weeks from arriving in Great Lakes for my sailor to receive any mail.  They do receive mail daily once the flow starts BUT can only write on Sundays (at least for a while).  Letters I maile the day I got his address, he didn't see for 2 more weeks.  When he received that first batch of mail,  it was so much that he couldn't read it all in the time he had.  He just divided it up with the rest he received.  We dated the flap of each and every envelope we sent so he could read them in order.

Your recruits will get their mail, it will take a week or more after they form a division.  My sailor said it was a time to get into a routine, learn the Navy way and to listen to RDCs without outside distractions AND there are so many of them coming and going, it takes a while for the mail to start flowing.  Also, each division will have a recruit that is in charge of the divisions mail in and out.

Good luck!  It's a journey but my sailor has about 10 months under his belt now and is home for Christmas from Goose Creek.  Thanksgiving was my first holiday without him and it wasn't as difficult as I had expected.

Thanks you for sharing your experience with us.....Linda

Im counting on it!! Just got his box yesterday...and now..... the box its over...all of us are talking about PIR...Have you got his letter yet?

Cant wait fot that so I can have all my dreams....coming to a reality..........

I got the box yesterday as well, no letter yet....by the way, hallmark has some wonderful cards just geared for military. I don't know if all hallmark stores will have them, because I live in a military town, but they are truly great.
