My son goes Tues. for his physical and to meet with his classifier to pick a job.  My husband was in the Navy 20+ years ago and told him to dig his heals in and push for BC in San Diego.  He said he did it when he enlisted by saying that he would wait to hear from the Coast Guard when they told him he would be going to Great Lakes and then suddenly a spot in San Diego became available.  Our son got a 97 on the ASVAB and my husband thinks with this, he will be able to go to BC where he wants.  Of course, since I wasn't in the Navy, I have no expertise in this situation so I thought I would ask you all what you thought.  Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

I am pretty sure now that the only boot camp for the Navy is in Great Lakes, Illinois.
I think the Marines has boot camps are both sides of the country - but not the Navy.
The Navy has only one boot camp now and it's at Great Lakes, Illinois. Some years ago they consolidated everything and built a lot of new buildings and training facilities. So if your son wants to join the Navy he has no choice but to boot camp at GL. Sorry.
Thanks. I tried to tell my husband that this is what I thought had happened, but of course, I didn't know what I was talking about since I was never in the Navy and he was. Makes me crazy, but I will pass this along.
At one time, there were three Navy boot camps, Great Lakes, San Diego, and Orlando FL. I went through in Orlando. Only Great Lakes is left open today. When we were in San Diego, late 90s, they closed the Navy boot camp there. His info is out-dated; one reason why I joined here when my nephew enlisted. So much has changed!

Here's the history if he wants to read it:

I found a link that I sent him at work. He has admitted that I was right and he was wrong... LOL. I just wanted to make sure so that when my son goes for his physical he knows not to ask for San Diego. Thanks all.
Ahhh men! They may not always be right but dammit thy're never wrong! So satisfying to hear my hubby (grudgingly) admit I was right and he was wrong!
