OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I would love to know why we shouldn't have a profile pic with our Recruit.  I asked my husband what it had to do with RDC's and he had no clue.  Granted it has been 23 years since boot camp and new technology but I have his pictures on FB.  Feeling really dumb...thank you in advance!  :)

chonny7 - I'm not sure why they don't want you to post profile pics with your recruit.  I've seen many people that do post them and I have pictures of my sailor on my page....also what's even weider is that if you go to NavyDads.com they use their FULL names as their profile!  I'm not sure why OPSEC is different over there....I don't use my name over there - just a variation of my profile name here..... I'm sure it has to do with safety and I have heard that higher command (or unsavory people) might look at some of the groups and they could put 2&2 together and get info about your sailor or troop movement.

Best to keep things "general" for everyone's safety.

Your FB pictures are shared with who you choose.  They can be set to private.  Your profile picture is for the whole world to see.  Would you willingly hand a picture of your soon to be sailor to a person with bad intent?   It is a matter of safeguarding your SR's privacy.  Put his photo on your private page.  Not OPSEC, but PERSEC (personal security). This is NOT a secure site at all, the whole world can read it.

There is some indication that an RDC can look up their recruits, gather personal info and use it to make life harder for your SR.  Personally, I think RDCs have better things to do, they're pretty busy.

Ooooohhhh, thank you!
