I didn't hear from my SR any word on her A school orders. She'll be going to corpsman training. Her recruiter told her she'd go to GL (even though a few weeks before she left, he told her it might be San Antonio). I'm hearing thru N4M, that they're sending all corpsman to SA now. Either way- does anyone know how long we'll have with our SRs after PIR?

Besides that, I thought a discussion group of us with corpsman can share any info we get on that anyway. Come join in!

Nothing teach so far.. I hate not knowing! And I went over to one of the SA corpsman groups on here to check out what was going on with the corpsman down there..And there are TONS that have been there for a couple weeks and STILL haven't started school.. Which is frustrating in of itself, but especially if they make our SRs fly out so early Saturday..whats the rush?!

I noticed the same thing. That just really bothers me. Why can't they just let them stay the weekend in GL to be with their families then? If they don't have room in the barracks- let them stay with the fams. It just doesn't make much common sense, but I guess we have to get used to it. That doesn't mean I have to like it though!

Okay ladies, I am feeling like a total idiot.  I have been checking this thread frequently, but never realized that there were more pages.  I just got caught up on all three pages and am so glad to know what is going on.  I have forgotten what it means if they have a chartered flight.  Can anyone tell me.  I barely have enough time to get on here and follow the PIR thread.  It's nice to see so many familiar people.  I'll follow it more closely now that I have it figured out.  :)

Exactly, teach...we don't have to like it, we just have to accept it...and remember that the benefits far outweigh any disadvantages. Being positive isn't always natural for me, but I have to do my best. Think of the skills, guidance, pride, values, and friends that they have obtained in the short time they have been in the Navy!

My daughter's last letter stated that she will only have 8 hours on Friday, then they ship them out to SA.

Ladies, We have to remember that we are now on military time and not our own time. The military time is hurry up and wait. I think the A school is waiting to have enough people for a class. Hopefully our srs will be what they are waiting for. Just remember in the Military you have to have a lot of patience. It is always there way. =)
My last letter said that they are probably flying out Sunday night. He was so happy to hear it because he really wants to spend the weekend with us. I know he will want to go right to the hotel and take a long shower just like my daughter did.

I don't want to change the pressing subject at hand, cuz we need to share any info we have on what the SRs are getting on flights out, but I'm just curious as to what your SRs are going to do after corpsman school? Are they wanting a particular specialty or to go in the field, etc. Mine really wants to be a physical therapy corpsman. She had to quit playing soccer (her love) in high school because of a torn ACL and subsequent probs due to the surgery, and has wanted to be involved in it since then. She knows that it will be tough to get into physical therapy cuz they have to have a spot, but that's what she's hoping for.

Girlsky- If they are on a chartered flight, they will not be able to wait with the family before the flight. They have to say good bye at the RTC. I hope they don't get a charter! Unless they fly out on Sunday, then I'll be happy with the extra day and will accept without complaint. (something I don't usually do- wink) From what I hear, if there are a lot of sailors going to the same place, a charter is cheaper for the military than so many commercial flights. It just seems that there are a lot of us in this PIR, and if there are a lot here, maybe a lot at RTC. I don't know.

Marie- I really hope your son is correct. I want to have my SR till Sunday!! Keep us informed.

My daughter said school for her would be 14 weeks.  In her latest letter, she said school would start on 6/20 or 21st and she would graduate in October.  Wow, I can't believe how fast this year is/will go by when planning trips to see her in SA (if she can have visitors and if funds are available) =).

My daughter's contract said A school is 16 weeks, and then after that it depends on what rate (job) she is given. But it sounds like 16 weeks (from the day they actually start- some are saying that they may not start until June 21st) in SanAntonio, then it depends...
Kitty, my SR was an ENT in Virginia too! He'll go into the medical field or firefighting again.
Thank you, Kitty. My SR is actually my husband. I don't have kids, but I can only imagine how challenging this journey must be as a parent. Thank you for your support to your kids and our country. I'm sorry your Marine left today...but you always have us! :)
