My daughter left for BC on 12/15 from Jacksonville. I have been on the web constantly looking for info and reading this site every chance I get. I have had the blues each day, some days worse than others. Yesterday, my day started with a lengty crying session.  Anyway, last night my husband thought he needed to cheer me up and we went out to dinner. On  the way, there was a huge traffic jam. It took us about 1 hour to get through the traffic. We didn't see an accident or anything but it clearly something big. Again today, I was meeting friends for a Christmas brunch and another huge traffic jam. As I approached, I saw lots of American flags near a church. Turns out a soldier, Kelly Mixon, was killed in Aphganistan and his memorial service was today. He was 23, married....his poor family. I felt so guilty about feeling so sorry for myself. Our kids are safe in GL, I thank God for that and I pray for all the recruits there. I really want to get my daughters address and I want so badly to know about how she is doing. But I better realize how lucky I am to have a daughter to be proud of who is not in harms way at this point.

Sad story..it's funny we/re much more aware of our military's sacrifices now

Thanks for all the info you provided on the first day. Thanks to you, I changed my user id since my id was very close to my name. How is your child enjoying Sicily? Can you travel there? It is really like no other place in Italy, very old style Italy. It is so true about the military sacrifices, I am just so proud of my daughter for making this choice. We really pushed her to go to college but it wasn't her thing. She kept saying she wanted to join the Navy and were kept trying to change her mind. She turned 21 and just decided it was what she was going to do. The more I learned about her choice, the more I was conviced that she was right. I think it is a wonderful opportunity and I just want her to be happy. thanks for all your support

Yes, my son says everything there is SO OLD!!  I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to afford a trip there.Kinda expensive.but he's there for 3 years so..ya never know.

Jessica.....Sicily! My husband's family was from there and my son went there a few years ago. Very "Godfather-ish" he said.

Welcome Southern4, if you can't find what you need to know on N4M it isn't knowable! You're right about getting things in perspective. My friend's son is a Navy doctor and has already done 2 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. My son is safe on a ship somewhere in the ocean. I can't complain.
