Ok, so my hubbs is just a couple weeks away from finishing FC A-school and I'm starting to get that impatient itch, wanting to find out where we'll be going next haha. So I thought it'd be interesting to see how long it took others to get their orders after their hubbs/sons/bfs/fiances finished A-school. Did you get follow-on orders for your PDS? And also, did they get what they put on their dreamsheet? Now that they're doing it with the dreamsheet, does their class rank do anything for getting what they ask for?

Hi GoldnG8r, I hope your son gets his orders soon.

GoldnG8r, my son was planning on waiting to buy his car until after C school. However, after being in Dam Neck for a month, he decided to buy one. He said that it is really hard to get around. There is only one bus to take you off and on base.  We have family back East and he wanted to go visit them. I think he also wanted the freedom of having his own vehicle. He said that if he get sent to a ship after C school. He can store his car in Norfolk.

He got a pretty good deal on a car there. He bought a used one. At least he won't be paying on it for 10 years, LoL.

I would rather he had waited to buy a car too. But you know these guys. Got to have their own wheels. I just prayed that my son would not get into too much dept. Luckily he only paid $2,900 for it.

GoldnG8r, I agree.  Definitely not a good idea. I have heard stories of Sailors getting into too much dept. As a result. They were refused security clearance. . Make sure you bring this point up with your son. He could lose out on a good assignment because of it. Particularly if it requires top security clearance. He would be narrowing down his options for the future.

It would probably be a good idea for him to discus this with someone in his command.  Buying this car might not be a problem but it is better to be safe than sorry later..

I will send you a personal message.

Hi Ladies,

My Stepson just Graduated from A school about 3 weeks or so ago and He just got his orders and he will be in San Diego for his C school and that also is his home base. That was on his Dream sheet and the Blessings came yesterday. So excited as we are from California and just moved out here from Nevada. Goodbye Chicago and the cold. He has rush orders and will be in SD  1st week of Nov.. yipee. now to find good hotels and fun things to do with our sailor. Thanksgiving might be in SD this year.Help me moms with some things to do , places to stay an if anyone lives in SD. We just got Married and he just flew out for our WEdding last week so I am just counting all our blessings and very Thankful.

Renie, that was quick. My son was on hold for 3 months before getting his orders. Congratulation to your son. What are his orders for?
I'm guessing he's an ET, cause the ET's are getting their orders really fast right now
Not sure if I did this right as I wrote something but I am doing this again so  our sailor just graduated from A school in Chicago 3 weeks ago and he just got his orders for C school in San Diego which was his number one choice on his dream sheet. We are so excited . Now to find great holtels, places and new moms inSD. He needs to be there 1st week of Nov. very soon. now we are trying how to get his car there.

Hi Renie,

Congrats to you and your sailor =) Regarding his car you could either drive it to SD or ship it and that depends on what you guys are more comfortable doing. Shipping your car can be expensive and I don't think the drive from IL to CA is too bad, but then again it is starting to snow in some parts of the mountains. Also for hotels have you tried the Navy Lodge in SD? Not sure if they have one, but you could probably check online. Usually they are more affordable then other hotels. As for places to stay (my husband has a lot of family there and we visit often) my opinion is to stay out of National City or do your research on the neighborhoods because it can be a little crowded there etc....Hope this info helps =)

Ash, I am glad your hubby finally got his orders. That is great!!  Is San Diego where you wanted for him to go for C school ?

I used to live near there. Very sunny and great weather.

Has anyone worked out any sort of way to kind of predict how long the hold will be for their FC? My husband graduates A school in late June, and it's hard just knowing we could be in limbo for 6 months to a year? Maybe there are some more recent anecdotes about how long orders are taking? Anyone have a sailor in the AEGIS system?

my husband is an FC (student) and he wants AEGIS, they just got done giving out a TON of CWIZ orders so those are pretty much out of the way for a while (thank god...no one wants those hahaha) DH comps the end of this month, and lately they've been looking at around 3 months for orders. So I'm really hoping that it's true haha I don't want to be in Great Lakes any longer! Your husband's might take until the fiscal year though since it's pretty close already, but I hope not!

AHH! I'm so glad to know there is someone out there that's trying to figure this out too. Thanks for your tips/thoughts! That's cool that he wants AEGIS - what made him decide that? My husband actually has a ton of guys in his class that want CWIZ - so they'll be bummed to know a bunch of orders just went out. This fiscal year starts in October, right? Do they wait to give orders until the fiscal year for a certain reason? First time I've heard of that - so I'm curious.

I know how you feel - I don't really want to be at Great Lakes anymore either. I know when the weather gets nice, things will be better - but I'm not sold on all of Chicagoland.
