Just got news that my daughter who left for boot camp on April 7th is on Ship 6 Division 929.  Any other moms, dads, boyfriends, girlfriends, wives, etc., out there with someone in this group?

AzNavyMom, Thanks for the update. Maybe he'll include the Chicago part in tomorrow's letter. So far a letter every Wednesday so I'm counting on getting one! :)
From what I've heard from my husband, former Army, and a friend at work who's son is
at Ft Benning in jump school, the way the gas chamber works is that they go in with masks, take them off, recite something they've learned while breathing the gas then leave the chamber. It's scary irritating while going thru it but then they are a slobbery mess from the sinus cavities and tear ducts afterwards and have a story to tell. I think that's my husband's favorite horrible memory of basic training. Then his A School experience was to go to Norfolk Navel Base for music school (where the Army also sent their band members). He thought he'd died and gone to heaven after basic! He still says that the Navy knew how to treat their people!
Hi, Heather. Yes, I got a letter from Yvette talking about the Armed Forces Ball in Chicago and how exctied she and her bunkmate were to get their packages. lol. Yvette hasn't said anything about her live fire test or pfa -- although I know she's struggling with running fast enough. She's not a very fast runner, but I'm sure they'll keep working her until she gets it down fast enough. With her knees bothering her in the last few weeks, I'm sure it's been hard on her. She's usually pretty hard on herself, so she'll keep working at it until she gets it right. I heard about the possibility of plucking eyebrows too, and it's funny how exciting that prospect can be for a girl!
Hi Alison,
So Laurins ankle & knees have really been giving her a hard time also. She is icing them 3x daily and @ meals, which she said isnt very long but as much as possible, also taking ibuprofen around the clock for the swelling. She has such a high pain tolerence and is determined to get through the pain but she said they hurt so bad she can hardly walk at times. She had a couple of days of light duty due to the wonderful dry sockets she got when they pulled her wisdom teeth (4) of them poor thing, other than that she has no complaints no regrets :) and always has so much excitement in her letters.Hopefully the girls can get through a few more weeks!
Thank you, Heather, for replying! You should be very proud of Laurin. If the picture on your profile shows your daughter, our two are complete opposites in appearance. You can see how fair skinned, blond, blue eyed we are. It's that Scandanavian blood racing through our veins. She's the petite one in the family at only 5 foot 10 inches tall. lol. When I hear people say they know what day people are doing what things at BC, it gives me an indication of what Yvette might be up to. Kathyjean's son is in the same division/ship, so when she says live weapons, it's like, oh, okay, Yvette is going to be shooting guns. Scary thought.

Kathyjean, so glad to hear from you! The days are whizzing by. I'm home today studying for my exam and trying to keep calm. I think I may treat myself to a pedicure or something just to get my mind off of it.

All the Navy moms, have a wonderful day!
is nice you all get so much info from your daughters. My son is Ship 6/ Div 929 also and I get no information from his letters. I ask him all kinds of questions but most things I know about what is going on I read here, so thank you all. Joe hasn't given me one name so I don't have any idea who anyone is! He says he is very busy and the food is ok but not much else!
Janis,

Please don't feel bad about Joe's lack of communication. How old is he? David was like that when he went away to college. Boy's are sometimes different than girls at this stage. If he hadn't had to call me to put money in his account I might not have heard from him. My mother kept reassuring me that he needed to put a little space between himself and his "son relationship" with me.
It's better now but he's still not as chatty in his letters from BC as what some of the recruits must be! :)
Thanks for responding! Joe will be 21 in June.We are very close. he is my youngest of 5 and it has always be hard for me to let him go.he has always been the one I "worried about", so it's probably just me. I know in my heart he is fine, I just need to hear it from him!
My daughter is on Ship 6 Div 929 and her PIR is 4 June 2010. J will be going to school in Monterrey, Ca, as far as we know.
Welcome Tammy,
I like your profile pic! I have a co-worker who would be jealous! She's a girraffe nut. She has boots, a coat, jewelry,
and this year her birthday cake, in giraffe print. What does J do in division 929?

Kathy
Good evening everyone,

It's been crazy stormy here tonight. The tornado sirens went off twice but we're safe. We did get a letter from David and I've been answering it with a flashlight by my side and my purse, phone and shoes ready to grab if we had to seek shelter. It's taken me a while to get my letter written. I'm about ready for May to be over!
David's letter sounded so much better than last week's. He had a blast at the military ball in Chicago and is hoping that they'll also get to go to a Sox/Yankees game before BC is over. The gas chamber is going to be after they preform PIR on Friday. He said that "Hell week was cake." And he got singled out as an example of being a "legit folder'. That makes a mama proud! I guess that would have made him a legit drawer stuffer when he lived here! :)

Janis, David mentioned that a Joe asked him about their moms talking to each other. He said that Joe's a nice guy.
Oh, good for you, Kathyjean. I'm so happy you got a letter from David. I am waiting very impatiently to check the mail today to see if I've gotten my usual Thursday letter from Yvette. Heather said her daughter, who is Yvette's bunkmate, said everything was going well. That they were all very excited about going to the ball because usually it's the seniors that get to go, but this time it was their group. That they have flagged on a bunch of stuff, and if they get one more flag they will be eligible for division hall of fame. That all sounds so wonderful, not that I know what any of it means. I'm just so thrilled that everyone's letters are sounding upbeat and positive. 14 days from today, and I will be on a plane to see her. Gosh, I cannot wait. I hope you have a fabulous -- safe -- day today. I saw the videos on the news last night about all the horrible weather you are suffering through right now in Oklahoma, and I said a prayer that you and all of your loved ones were safe -- hopefully underground somewhere! lol. Alison
Alison,
Thank you for your prayers and concern. When we came here to buy our house one of my "must have" requirements for the realtor was a basement. He laughed. The water table here is too high to make basements practical. So, our "fraidy hole" is our bathroom. Funny story, when the kids were little our Great Dane/Lab mix was so afraid of storms that he'd already be in the tub when the sirens went off so we'd have a child huddled at either end of our big quaking dog!
