We have a mission to "ZAP" some new energy into the "ZAPPERS"!

This group of sailors is in need of some serious tender loving care that only we could provide!  They are half way through a ten month deployment.

The "Zappers" are an airborne electronic attack squadron who fly and maintain the EA-18G Growlers, and are responsible for providing support for Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force and Coalition Forces.  This is one busy group and they are far from home.

The Zappers are based out of Whidbey Island, Washington and they are currently deployed with CVN75, Harry S. Truman, a Norfolk, Virginia based aircraft carrier, currently under the command of 5th Fleet.  We all know where 5th Fleet is so we know their living conditions.

There are many sailors in this group who don't receive any packages, cards or letters from home.  Some sailors have resorted to, "ordering stuff online or sending each other stuff in effort to keep the morale up".

As we prepare for the holiday season decorating, writing cards, baking cookies, let's BAKE A BATCH FOR THE ZAPPERS!

They would love to have a touch of home.  Homemade cookies, a hand written letter, a child's drawing...all of these will mean so much to this group.  The carrier isn't their real home and at times they feel like house guests who have overstayed their visit.  Let's make them feel welcomed and loved!

Here are the details;

Total sailors: 146, which is comprised of 125 males and 21 females.

Top Requested Items;

Food, (especially homemade treats, jerky and sunflower seeds)

Feminine Hygiene Products (21 females)

Pictures & Letters

Coffee and Creamer (I will ask if they have access to a coffee maker or if they are requesting single serve packets)

Deodorant, Lotion, Wipes, Tide Pods

They access to a fridge and microwave but no freezer. (so freezer pops are out)

They also have access to a DVD and CD player.

Pillowcases are a GO for the Zappers!

Let's make this adoption a wonderful way to transition to the new year

Shipping Dates  -

December 20th & 21st (or as close to that as possible)

Thank you all in advance for your help with the December adoption!

Love these!  I belong to a cookie baking group on FB and have been getting suggestions on the "best way to ship cookies 1/2 way around the world" :-)

What a great job you've done on these cookies!!!

Or these!

They do like the more recent releases, as the other movies they can download on their computers.

Hi Everyone, sorry I haven't been on in awhile, but my moms been in the hospital since before Thanksgiving and it's been a difficult time for me. But, I was at my sons conference on Friday and his teacher was asking how I was doing with my son being in BC (both her sons are in the Navy.) I told her how helpful the N4M site has been and how I joined MAS and what a great feeling it was last month when my children and I went to the post office and sent out our very first package. She was immediately interested and said would love to get her class and other classes in the school involved. So as others, I hope to have plenty of letters, pictures and cards to send! Also my daughter's a chef and since she knows I won't have much time to bake offered to bake a bunch of cookies for me to send out also! :)

The cards, letters and cookies will be a wonderful addition to this month's goodies!

Thank your son's teacher and your daughter!  They will put smiles on the faces of many sad sailors.

This is the first MAS we are doing, as I just joined N4M not too long ago. My husband, a Marine, has never been real keen on the whole writing to soldiers thing as what he saw while he was in was discouraging. He is even to the point that when our daughter had to write to a soldier for an English assignment he told her to do the assignment but not to expect a response, or even for it to be read. So that being said, when I read him the info on this group he was surprised that the request for cards and letters was actually there. My girls and I are pretty excited to get some stuff together and get it out to this group, and as my youngest wanted to send out Christmas cards this year they will now be going to this group.

My daughter, who is a Navy Corpsman reservist, works for a dental group with a number of offices.  For their Christmas party everyone brought something for the December adoption.  We are having a packing party tomorrow night at their main office.  I have a case of boxes here and my daughter told me I better pick up more!  I'll give you a number after Wednesday!

Hi all,  I'm new to this so this may sound like a silly question - but I just collect what I want to send, box it per the guidelines and ship it out also per the guidelines? Do you need to keep track of how many boxes are sent, or what is sent?

Thank you, I'm very excited to get at least one care package sent out!

Amy

Navy brat/mom-I'm so glad that your girls will be sending cards to this group.  The boxes will arrive to this group well after Christmas but that is still OK.  They may want to add a few Valentine's day cards to their selection!

One thing to keep in mind is that no matter how well received the letters and packages are, the recipients may not have easy access to email to send a response.  Whenever someone in our group gets a response it is posted on this site.  Even if we don't get many responses, we know that we have lifted the spirits of everyone in our monthly adoptive unit.

Whit's mom - Fabulous!  Thank you so much for the packing party.  Let me know when you have a final count.  Much appreciated!

Amy S - "One box moms" are the backbone of this group and it is how this group got started!  Every box counts, every box is important!  I, as well as every mom-of-the-month (M.O.M.), keeps track of every package that is sent.  It is important for the M.O.M. to give the contact person a count of shipped packages.  We don't want our contact person to be caught off guard.  We want to make sure they have enough room to accumulate the packages until their "reveal" of the adoption.  Most of the members of the unit don't know about the Molly's Adopt a Sailor adoption and are shocked when the boxes are presented.

All - I will be posting the shipping address shortly.  I still haven't heard from my contact person so no answer about the coffee.  I know that they are in a real "active" area right now and probably haven't had much of a break from their 14 hour days.

Laura, We have 26 boxes!  The "moms" and "sisters" at the office worked hard packing and taping!!  They were very excited and proud of themselves when they saw the end result of their labor!  This is a great group of women and I'm glad we could help out!

Woo Hoo!  Great job ladies!

Pass along my thanks to each and every one of those generous women!
