My son leaves for RTC on June 3rd.  He was having a little pain on one of his back molars and his dentist has referred him to a Periodontist.  He does not need a root canal and the dentist is saying one of the tendons under the tooth root is inflamed.  Possibly due trauma at some point in his life or when he wore braces.  He will see the Periodontist this week and hopefully everything will be settled before he leaves for RTC.  His dentist said if everything is not settled before he leaves that the Navy dentist will finish the job.  Is this something that will delay his leaving for RTC?  The tooth is only sensitive when he chews on that side and he is working each day so it is not interfering with his life.  I pray this will not hold up his training.  He is so looking forward to starting this next phase in his life.

The only thing which may delay him is if he begins taking painkillers.

My son's recruiter suggested he didn't get any work done on his teeth to just allow the Navy to do it.

My son wore braces for a number of years.  They were removed last year.  Then the dentist said at some point his wisdom teeth would need to come out.  He wasn't in any pain. Sure enough, week 2 of boot camp, the NAVY removed the two upper.  He was on painkillers (the first time in his life (18yrs old)).  He was SIQ= sick in quaters for days.  He missed a test.  He was allowed to take it once he recovered.  He's fine now.

He on target to graduate 6/6/14!!!

My son leaves 6-3 as well and he has need of a filling. His recruiter said to wait until then as well.

However, I am a dental hygienist and this is making me a little nuts. My son is adamant about letting the Navy do the job so as not to delay BC.  So, I guess we wait.

(Very excited for my son.)

He needs to call his recruiter and pass all this info on to them.  Our son had pain and it was his wisdom teeth, the month before shipping out.  After he went to dentist they said they should come out now and he went for it.  KNOWING that the once they get to boot camp they are going to pull out your wisdom teeth if they are!  It was do we wait to see it it gets worse and cause further delays or what.  His recruiter did not get back to him in time so they were pulled.  They were not happy!  He had to make a special trip to MEPS the week he shipped out just to get teeth examined but before that they did delay his shipping out a week.  Short answer: yes it can delay him!
