I'm a newbie. My son leaves for bootcamp from upstate NY on September 5th. It's been a looong process, quite the roller coaster ride for us, DQ, waivers, letters to MEPS in TN etc....so this has been something we've been waiting long awaiting for. It's funny how happy we were when he signed and the months afterward were filled with such proud smiles and now as the time gets closer the pride is still present but the smiles just aren't the same. In addition to our son leaving (after living at home attending college) our only other child leaves for her first semester at college just 3 weeks (this weekend) before our sone leaves for bootcamp. Talk about an emptynestlike RIGHT NOW, wow! Anyway my husband and I have also been looking forward to some alone time, we have a great relationship and are looking forward to romantic dinners on TV trays in front of the TV and sitting on the porch looking at our empty driveway (kids cars are moving into storage) haha. Seriously we have a lot of get-aways planned to help keep our minds off of how much we miss our 20 years of parenting. Would love to talk with others who have someone going off to bootcamp with my son.

My son leaves September 4th from Niagara Falls, NY. His recruiter is actually in Rochester. He is the last of our 3 children.
My son leaves out of Syracuse, not too far away!. He'll be picked up at home on the 4th by his recruitor, spend the night in Syracuse then off to MEPS for final swearing in, then airport. Perhaps they'll meet up.
Perhaps they will. Mine will go to his recruiter on the 3rd and go to MEPS and do the swearing in on the 4th in Niagara Falls. We are going for the swearing in and to see him off. We are anticipating that PIR will be November 2 if all things add up correctly. He will then go to MIssouri for his EO training for 13 weeks. House will be quiet. Oldest lives in Rochester, scond child leaves to go back to college in Buffalo on August 25th. We are flying to graduation and hopefully go to a meet and greet the evening before if we get there in time. Good Luck to your son. Maybe they will meet up somewhere along the line or maybe we will too at PIR.
Well it's getting close............ We've had a great family summer but now our daughter is all settled in at school in Rochester and in seven days our son will be gone. We had the going away party this past weekend, now it's just waiting to go. My son had breakfast with his grandfather this morning. He said it was really hard, grandpas health is not the best. Your 2nd child must be back at school now too? A school for my son will be in Pennsacola, I think it's 14 weeks. He has his timing right, out of chicago before the snow flies and headed down south for a little while. We should keep in touch since it seems our boys will be together.
Sorry I haven't replied before this, but this last week has beeen busy. We moved my 2nd daughter into college on August 25th (my 50th birthday), had a fun family dinner afterwards with my other daughter coming to Buffalo to meet us and my son helping move in. We had a lot of fun. We had his going away party on Sept 1st. Both sisters came, with boyfriends and dogs (my oldest) in tow. House was filled with family and friends all weekend. Some of my sons friends were at the house most of the weekend and seeing him off. We went to see the swearing in ceremony and also went to the airport for a little bit. Wow, what a whirlwind of a weekend. I received his call around 9:00 pm last night that he was there. 30 seconds......wow. Someone was standing over him. All is sooo quiet on the homefront, but my husband and I keep ourselves busy. Good luck to you today. It is hard and I had a lot of tears but it will all be good in the end and they are doing something terrific. My son goes to Missouri for A school. He is goingto be a Seabee (Equipment Operator). Will be thinking of you!!!! Stay in touch.
Hello there,
I too am a Newbie to this site. My Depper told me about this site months ago, but I never felt the need to check it out before now. His BC date is September 5th, 2012 but leaves Tues the 4th which is tomorow. All the emotions of sadness, anxiety, scared, proud and so much more are surfacing. My Son has been on his own for 2 years now living with friends from High School and just 1 month ago he got married. He will also be having a baby while in BC. We don't live close and unfortunatly are not able to see him off which is really hard. I hope to find someone here that will have a son/daughter in the same BC as my Son.
To Davedog'smom: Enjoy your time without the children as I said above my Son has been on his own for about 2 years and my other child (daughter) has been married about 5 years and with my first Grandbaby now. My husband and myself enjoy our time alone to do what we want, when we want. Yes we miss our kids, but you can always call and/or visit the ones close by. Our Navy child will be in our thoughts, hearts and prayers until we see them at Graduation.
checkout facebook page PIR 11/2/12. This is when our sons graduations should be and it is for parents of the kids that shipped around the 4th and 5th of this month.
This is really confusing to me, how come there are so many different dates that everyone leaves for Bootcamp? Where are all the different Bootcamps? (Maybe we can't say this online due to security) How many are there? It seems like people are leaving all different dates of every month.
Hi,
My son leaves on September 6th. We are also from upstate NY. He actually has to be dropped off at his recruiter's office on Wednesday and then will be brought to a hotel until he swears in on Thursday and flys to GL. What is your son going in for? My son wants to be a Hospital Corpsman with hopes of becoming a FMF Combat Medic. We are so proud of him but sad at the same time. He keeps telling me to stop staring at him! Bringing a roll of paper towels instead of Kleenex, lol. They may graduate together. I am thinking Nov. 9th ??
Congratulations and best of luck to your son! Keep in touch!!
Today's the big day!! Recruitor is picking him up at our house at 2:30. He will head up to the hotel tonight, sworn in tomorrow then off to BC he goes. It is for sure a bitter sweet time, so sad that he's leaving, yet so happy for him. My son will go to Pensacola for ASchool - Information Technology.
My son is at hotel now. Swearing in and flying out to GL in morning. He is going in undesignated as he scored very high on all. He wanted to be a corpsman ot first, but wants to see whats all available before finallizing his decision. He has gone thru EMT and is certified and Fire Fighting. Maybe they will meet up and keep each other going. Good luck to you and your. Maybe we will see you at PIR. Enjoy your time with each other.
