Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. My son has 108 credits for completing a master marine diesel mechanic program....approximately 1500 credit hours. Due to multiple processing problems at MEPS and him having 4 different recruiters in 7 months his contract still stated E1. He spoke to multiple People at meps on his ship out date, even said he would delay shipping if they didn't have it straightened out. He talked to someone in Pensacola, a commander of Meps for Florida I believe and he assured my son that his was a mess up by his recruiters and not his error. He says he would have it corrected during his first week at RTC and he should go ahead and ship. My son took his advice and shipped last week. What are the odds this will get fixed? My son isn't as worried about the money part but just feels like he should get credit where credit is due. Thanks

I am sure everything will get straightened out. When he is done w the Navy, he can head up to North Dakota and learn to fix diesel truck - he'll make a bundle.

Some have been able to get it changed after shipping and the pay was adjusted from the time of enlistment. Be prepared to fax documentation if asked, although the request is typically made to the accredited vocational/technical school.

Thank you, that is encouraging. MEPS has the official transcript, had it all along but they didn't realize he had 108 credits, it was read wrong. They were looking at individual courses which broke the credits down. When my recruit asked about it multiple times he always got the same answer.... Meps has to change it. The recruiters didn't follow up according to MEPS. It has been an excercise in patience for sure!
Found out today that he did get changed to E3 ! He was able to get help from his RDC and the transcripts arrived. I'm So happy for him!

Momof3  I have read what is on the contract is it but praying it was fixed at RTC. Where is your son going for A school and for what job? My son is staying at GL for GM.

 

He is actually going in E-PACT. He stays in Great Lakes after PIR for apprenticeship training for a few weeks then to his base or ship. He is already a trained marine diesel mechanic. He wants MM ultimately.
