My son left on Wed. 8/5 and we finally got a phone call yesterday (8/10) at about 8am. It came from a pay phone, I forgot to ask if he used his phone card to make it, I was just glad to hear from him! Now I am eager to get his address...he said where he was at was not the permanent BC address. I watched 2 Navy shows on the Military channel last night...too much information for a mom is a dangerous thing, I think I was more at ease NOT knowing.

my son went on 7/27. Got the box a week later, but have yet to get a call or a letter. Have sent him 3 letters, not sure if he's received or not. I've been really good til this 3rd week. Now it's getting to me. It's good to know he's safe, and I know God is with him always, however, I want to hear his voice or read his handwriting, something!
Prayer is about all we can do. My almost 11 yr old thinks I'm becoming a worry-wart, "Mom, don't send so many letters." I just thought it would be good. They all say, no news is good news, if they're NOT OK, then we'll get a call. Think positive. I love the comment from someone that "their son already sounded different," I'll take that as sounding different in a stronger way.
i got the box today, but there was no letter in it at all! I got all clothes, cell phone, envelopes, everything but his glasses. i did call his recruiter and he gave me the address. i hope it is right! I understood that the form letter would be in the box with his address. they did let him keep his wallet, address book and bible, but that is all!
I know, just dirty clothes.
Be thankful he is going to have a great future.
Expect only 1 or 2 short letters.
God Bless You
Funny your son did what i have a feeling mine will do. Our's will have his cell phone call me when he gets into Chicago and figure too that that phone call was enough. Oh these boys-so different than my 2 older girls. Ryne is our youngest at 18yrs old and now we are empty nesters. What a were quite household we will have. Cooking-I won't know how to cook for just 2 of us:)
Hi, Just wanted to let you know we never got a phone call and my son left 7/28. We received his box a few days later and then the navy form letter the following week, but still no phone call and we still have not received a letter yet. I am hoping to receive a letter this week at least letting me know he is doing ok. This is the hardest part, not being able to know if he is ok or not. Hang in there. Also, I did call his recuiter three days after he left and he gave me his address so we could at least start writing him letters. Good Luck
My son also left on the 5th and I still haven't heard anything from him, but I did get his box delivered today, not had chance to open it as I'm still at work. Very anxious to get home!!!! Happy for you that you've heard from your son. I love to watch the Military channel, it makes me feel closer to him - is that weird???
My son left on 8/3. Received a phone call on 8/3 letting me know he had gotten to the base. Haven't heard or received anything since. It sure would be good to hear him say "hey Ma". I am worried about his swimming. He is not a good swimmer. Does anyone else have that problem ?
They will teach him! Thank you for your son's service! Have you joined Boot Camp group? There is a LOT of information there.
Thank you for your reply. I have joined the boot camp group. I received a call from my son yesterday and he already sounds differently. I am beginning to get excited more than fearful now . He sounded great. There was no fear in his voice.
Were you bawling your eyes out as Jenna and I were?
That was the hardest phone call from her I could have ever gotten.
No, I was prepared for "the kid in a box" delivery. A friend from church was at the house later that afternoon and when I showed this person and my younger sons the box that was shipped from GL, the comment was, "Oh, Geoffrey [my son, Div. 340] got Raptured! Like in "Left Behind." " haha...what are the rest of us doing here? It lightened the moment and makes me smile when I feel like I can't.

Also, I have a confession...when do you stop (or do you?) being a Military tv-channel groupie? I never did soap operas, but I sure do watch the Military channel now.
