Hi, my son graduated on April 2, we flew into Midway and stayed at the Residence Inn in Waukeegan, which was an hour from the airport but the airports are all about 45 to 60 min from tha base the hotel was about 5 min from the base. It was very nice and had a free hot buffet breakfast every morning ( saves u at least 30 to 40 bucks right there) It was also close to restaurants and stores. We got a suite with a little kitchen liv room and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, We had the gf as well and felt it would give her a little privacey, and it did. Make sure to ask for the Graduation rate no matter where you stay they give u a discount. We paid $ 119 a night. Also if your going to rent a car make a reservation some people spoke of not being able to get a car as they were all gone. We did take the shuttle that the hotel offered to the Graduation and it was so much better than taking the car you have to let the hotel know the nite before for the shuttle. The line of cars to get in was crazy and we went right to the front and got dropped off, then we were checked in right there, the people in the cars had to wait in that line then another line where they checked the cars and then another line to get themselves checked in Crazy !! But having the car was good for the trip because we went into Chicago and did the Navy Pier. But just make sure to give yourself's enough time to get your son back to base, the traffic is nuts . Good Luck , Have a GREAT TIME !!! It is really awesome .
Lafayette, please read the comments on your page. Click on MY PAGE. The SF Bay Area Navy Families group, the New Moms Stop Here (for dads too) and the Bootcamp group all have lots of info on hotels. Please join those three group and read previously posted comments.
Check this site - it has some great information about graduation.

My son graduates May 21st. We are staying at the Quality Inn. Most of the motels have a special rate for people going to graduation. Most of them have shuttles to graduation so you don't have to go thru security with your car. The one I am staying at has a free shuttle and the graduate can ride back with you after graduation.

Hope this helps.
