Hey everyone!! I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I've already learned so much from just browsing the site, but I have a few questions left unanswered, so I though I'd ask.  Please, bare with me! My boyfriend left in january and will be graduating in march.  He's ship11 div 123. I am already looking for plane tickets online, but I really don't know if he is a "grad n' go" or not.  I am only 19 and I'm on a tight budget, so buying the tickets a little bit ahead of time will hopefully save some money.  I heard we would be given a little discount code later that would save us some money, but by the time I receive that code, the prices of the tickets would have already increased and therefore, making the overall savings less.  Anyway, I was wondering if we could hopefully find a pattern to figure out who is a potential grad and go, and who would be given liberty the weekend after PIR depending on their job/schooling.  For example, He's going to Florida for A school for aviation.  Has anyone else had a Grad that went there or was in aviation that either was a grad n' go or was given liberty the weekend of? Or do you think I'm just getting wayyy into it and in reality, grad n' go's are completely random? I know I'm getting a little complicated, but my curiosity is killing me!!
Also, If they ARE a grad n' go, how much time did you get to spend with them before they had to go? Even though seeing him for the first time in two months is priceless, the price factor still comes into play. =/ So far the cheapest I've found for the flight+car+hotel for the "maybe" two nights (before and after PIR) is around $550 from CA to Chicago.  Thank you in advance for any replies!!

thanks for your reply! not knowing is absolutely killing me!!
actually, he's my boyfriend! haha. he's going to be either aviation electrician or aviation ordnanceman, if can correctly recall.
It's hard to tell about the time you will have with him. My son wrote us & told us he was Grad n Go (GNG). It was also noted on the 3 page form letter I received with his address. From what I have read here, GNG means they will be leaving GL. If they move across the street at GL for "A" school they most likely get the weekend, however will have to be back in every night. It may take longer for them to check out of their BC ship & check into GL "A" school. He will be able to call & let you know when/where to pick him up. My son told us at PIR that his plane did not leave until the next day. He was still GNG but he was able to spend the day with us. Withen 30 minutes he was checked out & we were on our way off the base. He had to report back that evening. The next morning he was taken on the bus from RTC & we meet him at the airport to spend 9 hours with him there. Even though we knew he was GNG we still made plans for the entire weekend. They do not get orders until after Battlestations & for some that may be the day before PIR.

I have friends who sons' PIR was the same as ours & they left immediately for the airport going to Florida. However, another friend's son was GNC & didn't fly out for Florida for 2 weeks. There was a delay in the start up of his school & he had the entire weekend. In both cases neither knew til after the PIR ceremony.

Not unless things have changed there are no discounts for flights. We found looking online rates change minute to minute. Also better hotel rates online. Calling & asking for military discounts for PIR doesn't get you a better price. Same for car rentals. Check the Navy Lodge on base it's very reasonable priced. No great amenities but nice. You have to call & tell them it's for PIR. Good luck!
wow, that is a lot of good insight!! thank you soo much for taking your time to explain that to me!
Division 123 graduates 19 MAR and are transferred 20 MAR.
Strongly recommend your purchase refundable tickets. If your recruit encounters any type of problem (medical, etc) during training requiring a set-back, his grad date will change.

Divsion graduation and departure dates are planned well in advance, not randomly as indicated.

Recommend you contact my Public Affairs staff for the most current, accurate information. (847) 688-2405 and/or rtc.pao@navy.mil
Thank you so much for clearing that up! I'm assuming a lot of people here are on the same boat thinking the process is randomized. Thank you so much! I will be sure to call.
Dear CMC,
First, let me say Thank You for taking the time to assist N4Ms by giving us whatever information is available. I, along with many other Moms, girlfriends and family members have relied on this site to help us understand and get through the basic training process. While I see in your above post, you mentioned that DIV 123 is a GNG, can you enlighten us to any other DIVs with a PIR of 19 MAR being GNG? Since we're not from IL we'd like to spend whatever time possible with our SR even if that's at the airport, as I'm sure all families want to do. If a GNG is being transferred on 20 MAR are you able to advise us about how much time we might get with our SR after PIR and how do we go about spending time with them at the airport? Thanks again for all your help and I look forward to hearing from you and being able to pass on whatever information you have.
Sincerely,
LtTXsmarty
I contacted the Public Affairs office and was able to confirm if my daughter was Grad and Go! That was very helpful - now we can plan our weekend with her!
