Does anyone have good ideas for graduation gifts. What can they have or what would he need in A school that would be a great gift. My mom is asking me and I have no ideas! My son is going to nuke school. Is there something he will need for that?
Here is a link to the 12/29/2011 PIR group Discussion on that. It was started by Craig...retired Navy, who who helps out on this site.
Ummm...there's a few...err..um "funny" posts on it!
FTLW-Thanks so much, the coins are pretty cool The CAC reader is out of stock on the website on the link. I guess he will have to get that himself. I ordered a few coins for him for my daughters and my mom can give him. They are just $10 each. There is a really cool one for the Recruit Training Command.
I went to my Congressman's website and filled out the application to have a flag flown over the Capitol Building on March 2. The cost was $21. Last night I received an email from the Congressman's aide saying they had received my application and it is in the works! Because my SR is going to be a Corpsman and going to San Antonio, we are also getting him A&P flash cards and a coloring book. Those suggestions came from other moms on this site. Once he arrives there, he may have to wait and he will have something to do. The other gift I am thinking of getting him is a new book out about FDR and going to war. My SR is reader and I think he would like that. Thought about a laptop but I am going to let him figure out what he wants and then his bday is May 1 and we may do that then. Once he gets liberty after PIR, we are going to get him a new cell phone and then do the great pass at the airport.
A&P flash cards? just curious what that was? The flag idea is pretty neat.
Do they have to get a laptop themselves? I would have thought the Navy would have provided that for security reasons. He was in college before this so thankfully he alreadys has that. Do I have to bring this to him at PIR. I don't think I want to ship that. I will have to check out the flag on our congressman's website.
Doreen, I don't know. My son did not have his own laptop. We have a family computer only. He just graduated from HS in May 11. He did take some classes at the local community college but again, he used the family computer. I just mailed his father (we are divorced) and gave him the info for this discussion. I am thinking that his father will get him the card needed. If by chance he needs a computer, then we'll do our best to get him one. Yes, I would take the laptop to PIR and then do the great transfer of items at the airport or wherever your SR is going. We are staying at the Ramada Inn. All of my SR's family will be there. We thought it would be easier for the SR that we all stay in 1 place. His father and I are on good terms.
You can bring it and give it to him at the airport. You can't give it to them until they get the to the airport tho.
When can we give those type of thigs to the SR's that are staying in GL for A school?
Yes he is going to Nuke school in Charleston after PIR on 3/2. He is in ship 07 div 078. There seems to be alot of nukes with the same PIR. Hopefully that means the flights are full and he gets to stay to Sunday. Oh well, probably not, but it is wishful thinking. He says he is leaving on Saturday at 2 a.m. So we will just have to spend some time at O'Hare. I did go on the website for the coins and ordered him a couple for my daughters to give him as gifts. They were just $10 each. There is a cool one for the Recruit Training Command.
I read that no matter what time their flight is, the bus leaves at 2 a.m. I guess they will just sleep on the bus and at the airport.
The site for the coins. I bought the recruit command and the USS Chicago since that is the name of his ship.
My husband want to buy him the brick. It was on the pamphlet included with the form letter.
