Hi! :) i am a New Wife to a Navy Recruit Sailor in Training. My husband is currently in Great Lakes, IL since March 19,2013 Please help

Does anyone else have a loved one who arrived on March 19?

The last time i heard from my husband was around 8 pm central time, and he called just to tell me

he made it and to expect another call and that i should be receiving a package.

Does anyone know when i should receive my first letter from him? i miss him so much he has been the rock for our family and i feel torn without him. i still stand and support him but i would be lying if i say i did not miss him. Also does anyone know what division he may be in? i would love to join a group with other mothers, wives and loved one.

Hi.  I am a veteran mom. The letter takes about a week it will come about the same time as the box which will have all the items he can't have at BC.  Do you know his recruiter?  They can sometimes tell you what his address and division information.  It is usually accurate, but it is best to wait for the letter to be sure.  Get on to the main page of Bootcamp for Moms and you should be receiving a link to your husband's PIR Group(group he will be graudauting with) soon.  If not shout out to Lady Hamilton she usually sets these groups set up.  Start writing letters now so that you can send them as soon as you get the address.  The guys depend on those letters-it is their lifeline. Rest assure he is okay...isolation is part of the training-and that goes both ways.  Calls can come at anytime and it is usually based on a need for information or if his division is doing well so always keep a phone with you.  What is your husband going in for? My son graduated in July and I can tell you it was tough not being in contact with him, but in the end it is all worth it.  He is in A School now in CA and loving it. Join the groups and ask questions..it helps.  You should get your first letter in about two to three weeks.  Good luck on your journey and let me know if you need any other information.

Thank you so much for the information! i really appreciate it! :)

i absolutely love this site, it has been extremely helpful and i'm glad there is a ton of support. I'm not quite sure of his job but i remember him telling me Damage control. i'm so scared especially when it comes closer to his graduation. it's just me and our 1 year old daughter and i'll have to fly out there alone and figure out a place to sleep and rent a car at only 22 i am sure i can do it but it is still pretty scary i have never left Texas.

He most likely will have PIR 05/17/2013, but since he arrived on a Tuesday, it could be the week before if he was one of the last to fill a division from the week before and is in a Push Division.  See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC for more on that and be sure to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the members) within this group. You will find out the Division number when you get the form letter.

FTLW or ellen, not Lady Hamilton, will set up the PIR group.

Sometime between now and the end of BC, join Damage Control Mom's.  You may also find others with DC's in Engineers, Snipe Moms(enginers), and Snipe Moms. Since "A" School is at GL, you will want to join, or at least check out, Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March, to connect with others with loved ones who left that day and may have PIR together.

Thank you so much for your information!

You are very welcome.

You will feel better with every bit of communication but connecting to other Moms and Wives and Girlfriends is the BEST thing to do right now.  When my son's recruiter gave me the information on his Ship and Division is was correct so call and ask then you can see if there's a group started.  You can always change groups if it's wrong, just don't send a letter til you get the letter confirming because he probably won't get it.  Hang in there and stay on here!  It's the best place to be because we've all been there and we all care!!!!

Thank you so much! yes i have seen that this site is extremely helpful and i look forward with connecting with everyone on here. it's hard being alone but it builds my courage to see others who gone through what i'm going through and others who are currently going through it. we're not alone and i love that. Thank you again!

hi chanel welcome we all understand what you are feeling and have been there my boy has pir 4/19 so im just past the halfway mark as you get closer you will see posts of good locations to stay for pir and you will see the pir group for your husband everyone tries to help each other out here and there are so many who have wonderful information. trust me we all miss them tons and they miss us just as much. with my son the box came a week before the form letter then a week after the form letter start letters and an occasional phone call if you have a cell phone it will become your lifeline too him and as we all did you will be waiting for that phone to ring and get lots  of pictures of your daughter so you can send him some when he is able to get them in letters it is one of the first things they ask for. i had some that i sent to my boy that i knew would make him laugh after he got them he said thanks it made his day. time will fly and while he is there you will see you do what we all did and that is research and bond with others that have loved ones in his division and are in same situation as you as he is bonding with his division. hang in there it  will be over soon and you will be able to communicate with him way more

Congratulations! i know you are one proud mama and how great you get to see your son really soon!

Thank you for your information! also i think the one event i will probably stress out the extreme over is the PIR with finding a flight out of Dallas to Great lakes, Hotels and Car rentals. i read from a previous post that Hotels and car rentals charge an extra $100 For people paying with Debit cards. Also i'm traveling with of course or 1  year old girl and i'm only 22 so i am a little nervous but i think if i plan early i will be ok. and advice on hotels and shuttles or car rentals?

Was the RSVP Navy Lounge affordable then the other hotels?

The Navy Lodge or Gateway Inn and Suites will be more affordable than other options--no taxes or additional fees.

The Gateway Inn and Suites will be best for you if you have a car, but your Sailor will need to get a deviation chit in order to visit you there since he is staying at GL for "A" School.  The Navy Lodge will be best for you if you end up needing to take a taxi.

The Navy Gateway Inns & Suites is located on the main base, about 1.5 miles from RTC. Only those with military IDs can access the base to stay there.  http://dodlodging.net or 1-877-NavyBed (1-877-628-9233).

The Navy Lodge is located 1.9 miles off base from RTC and guests of graduation are allowed to stay there.  https://reservations.staydod.com/hotelSearch.do?action=View&pro... or 847-689-1485.

You can find out about other options in the discussion, Recommended Places to Stay, within PIR Reference Information may give you some ideas. Saving Money PIR Weekend may have other info to help you.

Hello,

My husband just arrived at Great Lakes on March 20th. I am waiting to hear what division he is in so i can join a group with others who have loved ones in the same division.

I miss my husband as well and the 30 second call was so short :D
