My name's Jacqueline, and I live at Eagle Ridge!
Hey Jacqueline! We should meet up since you said you live in the same unit as I do. Which apartment number? I've got a few girls I just met and they're so sweet. I don't think they use this site, but they've been here awhile so they can help you out! :)
Hey ladies, I live at forrest pointe apartments. Its just a little south from ya'll.
Hullo all, I live on base in Forest Village (Forestal? I can't get it right).
Hello everyone!
I'm Julie, I live in Forrestal Village =) been here for almost a year!!!
hey everyone, Ill be moving to chicago soon and im wondering if anyone has any advice for a good apartment for my husband and I. He will be in A school.
Hi Eboni, have your husband visit the Fleet and Family Services and they will give him a list of the military friendly places to live.
When are you planning on moving to IL?
ill be there on 10-30-09 for his graduation and then hopefully 3 week to a month after that to stay with him. Does anyone know exactly what steps we need to take for my moving there to be approved asap. anything helps...thanks!
Your husband will need to fill out live ashore papers and then wait for approval. And then attend a briefing for the move. He will need to give his PLR a visit. And they will guide him on the steps he needs to take to get you moved to IL.
Hi ladies. My husband leaves for boot camp January seventh. And he's been really strong and excited about leaving till he spoke with a friends wife that had joined the navy about a year ago. And she has nothing but bad things to say about how much she dislikes it. She said that her husband is never home and that made Josh upset bc he's scared i'm not going to be strong enough to handle it with him gone so much. I am a very strong women and I could do it. I was told that since he is aecf that I will be able to live with him after boot camp while he attends school. Is that true and how soon after boot camp can I move. What needs to be done so I can move as fast as possible and we have been looking at the eagle ridge apartments. I think that is where we want to be how are they? Thanks in advance for all your help. We are both only 20 and married so it all alot to handle. I feel like I have so much to learn.
After he gets out of basic training, while he's in INDOC, indoctrination, where they get briefings on different topics and how to cope with life on ship (living quarters), he will get a 'Living Ashore' Packet. He has to be Phase 2 to be able to turn this packet in. They have 2 phases while in basic training, at least at Great Lakes from what my husband said (because of people that broke rules). I think Anti M posted something on here about the phases, he has to take certain tests, i.e. Physical fitness assessment, room inspections, to get on phase 2. He'll fill out and turn in the living ashore packet and then either put you on a list for on base housing (which I recommend) or tell them that you guys want to live off base. If you do decide to live off base in an apartment or rented house, make sure they 1) have a military clause (states that if you guys have to move out because he gets papers to go somewhere else whether it be for school or permanent duty station papers, you will not be liable for moving out early expenses, the lease will become null and void, 2) Make sure that you get a 'dummy lease' for him to turn in with his living ashore packet. You need to be patient. Lots of 'Hurry up and Wait' being done as a military wife. Not sure how long the wait is for on base housing, but it shouldn't take long to move you up there depending on when you have everything in order if you are living off base, and when he completes and turns in his living ashore packet. After that, there is a specific moving company that handles the military move for you and you get an allowance for moving anything not listed or covered by the movers. Yes, you have a lot to learn, but we try to give the best advice on here as possible. I'm learning as we speak. Good luck.
